Tiger Wants the Most Spin Possible From His Equipment

Recommended Posts

The equipment guy from Taylormade talking about how Tiger wants the most spin possible because he wants to be able to take spin off, not try to add spin.

I wonder for any person, no matter how they swing, is it easier to take spin off the ball versus add spin on?

I know for me, I tend to launch everything with higher launch angle and lower spin. I hardly ever get that ballooning type shot unless I am hitting into a severe headwind. I think for me, playing equipment and golf balls that give me the most spin is better for my iron and wedge game.

I think that adding spin can be tough, particularly if you want to keep your shots within a similar launch window.

He's Tiger.  Probably knows more about the physics than any other player in the game and he wants what works best for "him", not everyone else.

Look back at Greg Norman, too much spin on his shots into greens cost him a lot back when he was a top player.  He seemed to refuse to hit shots with less spin.  Saw him on multiple occasions, one in particular at the Masters, hit the ball well behind the hole and spin it all the way back down into the fairway.  In those cases, a lot of spin is not goodl

I'd take that bet. He's a golfer. The best ever. But he's not a physicist.

Well… he also could have played a different ball.
