My CX-5 has a control wheel/button, and though it takes some getting used to to use it to interact with my CarPlay stuff… I agree: it's faster and safer with fewer mis-reads (like when you are trying to touch a button but as you go to push it you go over a bump and you hit the wrong button).

Cars in recent years have come equipped with larger, more feauture-packed touchscreen infotainment systems. But are they really better than simple buttons?

On my car I can change any setting without taking my eyes off the road or even looking at the controls. On my wife's car I have to look at the screen to see what I am trying to do. I definitely prefer tactile controls.
