I like to walk the course. I carry my bag right now. Considering a cart. Who likes to carry the bag and who likes to use a push/pull cart? If you like the cart do you like the push or the pull and why?

I like the push cart. I used to love to carry, but my back would be sore after 18, especially when I'd carry 100+ounces of water over the summer. So now I use a push cart. I can still walk, and I can walk 36 without hurting my back.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Last year, I thought about getting the clicgear cart, but I have to admit, I was influenced by my friends and a number of people on forums that say carts are for old folks. I am 28, athletic, in great shape, and have had no injuries, so I figured they were right. However, if its a choice between having a push/pull cart and a golf cart, then take I would walk the course and take the hand cart.

For whatever reason, push carts are really big in Europe, but are frowned upon here.

I am also 28 and active... I play both hockey and racquetball... but screw carrying a bag around, especially on hilly courses. I don't care how fit you are, carrying will affect your swing ever so slightly at the tail end of 18 holes on some days. Plus, I can actually put all the crap in my bag that I like to have with me. It also has a place for my water, scorecard, and other such stuff. Not too many people will talk shi* to me for having a push cart anyways as I am 6'4" and stocky.

We have caddies who carry/pull carts for you in this part of the country... hehehe...

But when I do play in another country, I would use the pull carts.

Well, I'm going to vote in the other direction, I love to walk and I now prefer to carry again. I have a Clicgear cart that's really great, but honestly, it was just an opportunity to shove needless crap in my bag for me to be tinkering with when I should be focusing on the next shot. Now that I'm carrying again, I've limited my bag to the necessities:

Clubs
Balls
Tees
Rangefinder
A bottle of water

Life is simple again!

what in the hell were you putting in your bag before Did you carry a book on trig to plan out shots or a star chart or some other crazy gadgets or devices?

Actually, it was more like a sandwich, couple sports drinks, probably more balls than I needed, couple gloves, rain gear, umbrella, etc...

I'm not a big strong hockey player, so I couldn't carry it all after I got rid of my sissy-cart

i love walking for the exercise that it gives... and we have some straight up mountainous courses in NJ, NY & PA.

But I do score better when I've ridden.... But if I'm going out for ball striking sessions...not scoring and only worry about how i can strike and work the ball..then I'll just walk.... courses here tend to get backed up..so by the time i walk and get to my ball...i still have like 3 - 5 minutes to wait till my next shot.

I mostly used a cart, because my bag is abnormally heavy. I don't know what it is, but It really hurts my back after 18 holes. I like carrying though because you can get close to the green, and walk across the green without having to go around like you do with a cart.

    • You get a penalty stroke because your local committee didn't do their job, they didn't address the specific conditions using the tools available to them within the Rules.  The rulemakers contemplated just this situation, bunkers being so filled with Temporary Water that they're unplayable.  The only way to address it "fairly" is to allow free relief outside the bunker, and they do NOT want to allow that on an everyday basis.  So they write the rules as it is, and allow the Committee to override the normal rule in the rare instance where the bunker really is full.  That's what your "local league" does, they invoke Model Local Rule F-16, which treats flooded bunkers as both GUR and as General Area.  Relief from GUR in the General Area allows relief in the General Area (i.e. outside the re-defined bunker).  Its quite a logical way to approach a relatively rare situation. Separately, consider your concern about temporary Water in the fairway.  I've seen situations in relatively level fairways where the Nearest Point of Complete Relief  from Temporary Water is 30 or 40 yards away, further from the green, even in the rough.
    • There you go, @yungbuck6. Your hips aren’t really shifted forward and your head tips back. The camera angle isn’t good so what looks like hip slide could actually just be extension towards the ball.
    • But there's more to weight shift than just where you finish. How your weight transfers throughout the swing matters too.  But you're saying you can see it better than a device that can measure it? Got it.  Yeah I'm good here, good luck to whoever tries to coach you.
