A green is just a tiny fairway 😉

I find a lot of people limit themselves by how they think a hole should be played instead of see the many ways it can be played. If there’s plenty of room to run the ball up I don’t see why you couldn’t hit a long chip and run type of shot and just get the ball there, especially if solid contact is your primary goal. The scorecard has no pictures and your friends will stop making fun of you when you keep beating them on that hole.

What’s the difference between missing the green left/right or short other than your perception of the miss?

I hit a ball so fat on the 12th hole (also a par 3) on Saturday during a tournament, it didn’t even make the ladies tee. I just laughed at it. Then I hit a GW to 8’.

Imagine hitting a 190 yd tee shot after walking from the parking lot over the Grand Canyon.

its still playable at the bottom but if you catch it just a little fat you’ve got a 40-70 yd pitch uphill 40*

190 yards won't clear the Grand Canyon 😜

Ok so you can't chip and run it. Another option is to tee it up a little higher and sweep your iron a bit like a fairway wood.

I thought about bunting up a hybrid on a short par 3 today but the ground was super wet so I didn’t. It’s something I’m going to try in future.

Later on I had a shot where I probably should have punched a 5i or hybrid 100y off a terrible lie with a tree behind me and in the path of my backswing, but instead tried to hit a full shot and fatted it short. All to say, it’s a shot worth having in the arsenal and one to practice.

I'm pretty good at trouble shots. I have a lot of practical experience.

Though start, bad design.
For me.. I would tee it up and hit the biggest club face in the bag that don't airmail the green.
Also hit a fade that is a lot easier for me to hit up on the air. 180/190.. it should be a high cut with 3 Wood with a tee 1 inch above the turf.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
