Less than a year ago, when I started golfing, like most I had an out to in swing. This resulted in very large divots pointing left. Almost a year has passed, and I have done 3 months of lessons, and am currently revamping my swing with hogan's fundamentals. I have seen improvement, but what I have noticed is that I still have very large divots. I even take them with my 4 and 5 irons and it is not just a brush against the grass, it is very deep. Is this a result of still coming out to in? My trajectory is straight and piercing, and I have no complaints. The only problem is after I'm done at the range my spot looks like a mess and all dug up. If having giant divots is not a problem, then I'll deal with it. I do not believe my swing is steep, I wish I could try to get my swing on film. Any ideas why this is happening? Also, my divots do point a tad left of my target, is this coming out to in :-/

Divots come from dropping your left knee(for leftys)

So if you lift up during your backswing and then overcompensate on the downswing by taking an extra low turn which causes your left knee to drop

Also swing through the ball on your fallow through

I agree with Lefty. As for your divot going slightly left. It is possible you are going slightly outside in. One thing I would check is your grip. Ideally you want a neutral grip so it is easier to square up your clubhead. At least for me it is...

Make sure that your weight is shifted completely to the left leg at impact.

The bottom of your swing should be under your left armpit, 2-4" in front of the ball.

Use the lower body to initiate the swing and keep hands in front of the clubhead to avoid scooping the ball. Bobby Jones said that the sensation is one of feeling your left arm drag the club through.

Nothing wrong with divots, they are actually encouraged as long as they are in front of you ball. LIke mentioned, your clubs lowest point should be 2-4" in front of the ball when you swing

Thanks guys. I'll focus on my right leg during my backswing and downswing to make sure it remains constant, and that I am not dipping in the downswing. Also, I rarely hit it fat, but next time at the range I'll stick a tee where my ball is and make sure my divots are at least an inch in front.
