I found out today that my wife's uncle, who I play with every Sunday and in my league on Wednesdays is having heart surgery in a few weeks. He will be out for 8-10 weeks. He is also my teammate on our annual Father's Day Scramble. He is a great guy and a lot of fun to play with. The season won't be the same without him. The only upside is that my brother, who is a better player, has offered to take his spot on Father's Day.

thats too bad. one guy in my foursome just had shoulder surgery, and his wife lost her job. they might move back to canada, or they might stay in town while she tries to be an artist. either way, he's done for the year.

he would have been in the scramble, but i got kicked out of it for being too young (some old farts had some lame reasons, one being that THEY CAN"T SWEAR around a 15 year old. another was that they are at a disadvantage. last i checked, a handicap is a handicap)

hopefully he recovers soon

I think you should do just fine. Hopefully your uncle is back to the game soon. I would have volunteer to fill in if needed but then I suspect it's a handicapped event.

Thank you all very much. I'll pass this along to him. I'm sure he will appreciate it.

As far as the offer to fill in, it's actually a scramble but after seeing your handicap I was tempted to dump my brother and let you play.

  • 3 weeks later...
Thank you again to all of you that wished him well. I do have some good news. He met with the cardiac surgeon that will be doing the procedure and was told that they would only be breaking 1 rib, instead of the entire sternum, and that he would only be out of work for 3 weeks and off the course for about a month. He will also be able to continue playing until the surgery on June 17. That will allow him to play in our Father's Day Outing.
