I headed down to my local Roger Dunn Superstore the other day to try out some game improvement clubs since I'm thinking of upgrading. I was thinking of either the Nickent 3DX set I've demo'd there before and also the new Wilson Staff Di7 that I've been reading good reviews on.

When I went to the new iron section and even the used section, they did not carry any Wilson clubs at all. How come a large chain such as Roger Dunn not carry Wilson Staff. It's not like WS is a small company and at least on par with Macgregor, Bridgestone, and Srixzon that they do carry the lines of. Now I may have to truck to a farther Golfsmith location to try out WS items.

I play the di7's and love them. The loft's are a little stronger so you will probably pick up a few yards. Good price too.

RD not carrying this surprises me. Which RD did you go to, and did you ask about it?

By the way, RD and GolfSmith aren't the only chains in O.C.. There's a Nevada Bob's off Alicia Parkway that would be another good place to check.

The Roger Dunn I went to was the Superstore in Santa Ana. I know the Golfsmith nearby may carry it since they list it on their online website.

I would go to Nevada Bobs, but their hitting area is small and I would like to have a selection of used/trade in clubs like the ones offered at RD & GS since I'm looking at the Nickent 3DX, Wilson Di7, TM R7, and Mizuno MP-25s that have come down a good deal when bought used in the shops.

There's a local Roger Dunn in Mission Viejo that I may have to check out if they carry some used Wilsons there.

*That* store didn't have it? Whoa... scary to me.

This is the one off Avery Parkway? That store is bigger than it appears offhand. Plus it's near Saddleback, my favorite driving range. There is a good supply of clubs in the back, although it has only two hitting bays.

By the way, did you ask an RD manager to call around for you? They can usually find stuff. When they had their used Cobra driver sale back in November (Pomona area), the sale bin didn't have what I wanted. The manager called around until he found the exact specs I wanted -- in Anaheim. He offered for me to either pick it up there or he'd have it shipped to an RD of my choice (I chose West LA, near where I live). The charge? Exactly what it would've been had I found it in the bin there. That story aside, the RD managers can pull all sorts of things for you if one of the RD/WGS/GM carries what you want. I'm not sure how the HI locations fit in now, but at least for CA locations they can do plenty.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
