Went to the driving range yesterday to bat some balls around and was hitting them pretty badly. Not sure why but it didn't matter which club I used I wasn't hitting anything. Second half of my bucket, things started to get better. Since I just started, I am not a very long hitter and can barely hit my driver 200 yards.

I had about 10 balls left and one of the kids who works at the range came up to me and said that I was only using my arms to swing and to put my hips into my swing. 7 of those 10 balls were rockets, I must have added an extra 40 yards on those shots after doing what he told me too. The only bad thing is that I had to pick up the wife and never had time to get another bucket to keep trying it.

Makes me look forward to getting lessons from a real golf pro.

Good to hear it worked out, some times its only one little tip that can get you going, I suggest you have a couple of lessons though with a pro just to get you on the right track.

I'm sure he couldn't go as deep into the swing as a Pro can though.

Its funny how a small little fix like that can help you. I was hooking a lot of my shots at the range one day and the guy next to me saw i was frustraed about it and he told me that my ball position was a bit far up. I moved the ball back, started hitting them straight, funny how little fixes can clear up all your problems.

I find that I can get my point across to students in very little time. I dread having to give hour lessons, or even half hour lessons. I would love it if I could get people to take a 5 minute lesson.

I once got to split a 30-minute lesson across three ten-minute segments in the same day. 10 minutes for the swing change and a few observed shots, then I hit a token's worth of balls on my own, got him to check that I'm doing it correctly, made a minor fix and he watched a few more shots, then I hit another bucket, and he checked again. Same thing as a 30-minute lesson, but I got to ingrain it much more.

Maybe you can find a handful of your students who might otherwise schedule half-hour lessons on the same day(s) and split it this way. It isn't quite a group lesson, since each gets individual attention still, but I suspect that they will get more out of it.

I think shorter lessons would be more beneficial. It's easier to have one of my buddies just every once in a while look at my swing and give me a tip and let me run with it. And later check to see if I am still using the tip.
