Close but no cigar.

With my slice, there is a dogleg right at my home course that plays into the my fault perfectly. I've gotten fringe but never closer.

Yes, surprisingly (I don't think of myself as the world's longest hitter).

A 295-yard par 4 at the Arden Course, Forest of Arden. Bit of breeze behind, bit of a dogleg L-R, drew it pin high with a 3W.
17th at Wareham golf course. Actually went through the green.
Several at Ferndown Forest, which is quite short - a lot in the 290 - 330 yard range.
One at The Dorset - which one, I can't remember. It was the day after Wareham so I was in the groove!
One at Forest Hills, Forest of Dean - about 320 but all downhill, steeper past 270. All you had to do was get to 270 with no more than one bounce and it would run all the way.
How many did I birdie? Three at Ferndown Forest. Others - all either pars or bogeys. Especially cheesed off about the bogey at Forest Hills. Kept leaving the putts short.
Grrrrrr!
Fun, though.

Ive done this lots of times. In high school one hole was 270 or so. I was on the green my teammate drive the green it stopped 1/4 a roll short of going in for an Ace on a par 4. Damn!!!!!

I have done this more than a few times. Most were short par 4's though (270-320) The one I am most proud of though was in a scramble I hit last. My boss was moving the long drive marker and yelled back that there was no way I could get close to him. I sailed it over his head at about 350 out. I ended up 7 yards from the center of the green. The hole was a straight away flat 392 yard par four. Never again have I hit one that long.

Drove my first par4 green today, kinda by accident. The hole is like 320 yards dogleg left (about 280 as the crow flies). I was trying to put it just to the right of the big pine trees that are at the corner, hooked it a bit and went left of the trees, missed the branches by a couple feet at most. I ended up rolling over the front of the green and onto the fringe. I got lucky in that the pin was front right, had a 12 foot putt for eagle (first one of those, too), which I missed but got the birdie.

Yes...but the couple of times I've done it I didn't convert the putts for eagles....so it's a moot point for me.

I came really close the other day on a 290 yd hole pretty far downhill. There was no fringe on the green so I couldn't even say I drove the fringe, but it was about 7 inches or so from the dancefloor.

The pin was all the way in the back uphill so I ended up three putting for par, hard to argue I suppose.

    • Day 4 (24 Jun 26) - Played the mid-week shootout - iffy day on putts as I had 35 and of late been in the upper 20's.   Greens recently verti-cut and they are a bit bump and long haired - no excuses as I need to learn to trust making the proper adjustments.   Overall a decent day with some solid long game shots.

    • Thank you.  I'll cross it off the list since it isn't going to achieve what I want.
    • While it does turn out that both Tiger and Phil are less squeaky clean than I previously believed, I don't think golf quite has the worst in professional sports.  Or maybe they're better at image management.   Obviously I'm not fond of Phil's issue we're discussing in this thread (or his involvement with LIV) or Tiger's choices of how to drive.  I used to really like Dustin Johnson and, even before the LIV situation, we started to hear rumors that he bought more snow than Seward, although I don't think those stories were ever substantiated.  Meanwhile, I did think of Anthony Kim as the "good, bad boy" of the tour for a while fifteen years ago because of his party persona -- and if it turns out the worst he did was show up hung over to play (barring what one thinks of LIV), that's pretty good.  And I'm still happy he found a way to get his life clean. If we contrast that with some other sports I enjoy, I'm sure we could find a nice long list of NFL players that, at one point in my life, I was quite fond of, we get far worse disappointments (to put it mildly).
    • Answering that properly would land me in hot water, so I'm not going to. I don't think that many people would do that. I think that in certain circumstances many people would be willing to overlook someone doing that. But I was really referring to what I assumed was Tiger's transgressions (cheating on his wife) not Phil's.
