See if your local gof shop has a hard case rental available. If you are just going to use it once or twice, it might be a more economical way to go.

Good luck.

Club Glove BurstProof II with wheels, and a StiffArm.

And do yourself a favor and get an unusual color. I bought black because it matched my other luggage and I like black. But now I wish I had gotten another color so my bag really stood out at the airport.

(and other colors: http://www.clubglove.com/user/ViewPr...p?ProductID=13 )

I know a lot of people will say "get the Last Bag" because it's bigger. But I don't want to be dragging around anything that big. Also, with the way airlines are reaming passengers for luggage fees, I don't even want to know what they would charge extra for the Last Bag, especially in you actually used all that space.

I also know that people like the Sun Mountain Club Glider, but I've never had any trouble whatsoever pulling my BurstProof II, and it stands up when I stop (or I just leave it on the ground if the floor is sloped.) It doesn't feel heavy or unmanageable.

EDIT:

  • 3 weeks later...

I've recently bought a couple of Golf Travel Covers 2nd hand.

One is a hard travel cover by Golf Guard the same as in the attached photo. I've used it once & it did the job well, including keeping the contents dry when it was transferred between planes.

The other one is a Nike Golf soft travel cover which I couldn't resist buying because of the price (next to nothing). Although, it is soft, it has plenty of padding & has wheels. I then went out & bought a Club Glove Stiff Arm to give as much protection to the contents in the event that I use this.

Although, the hard travel cover would guarantee clubs were protected whilst in traveling, and a soft travel cover cannot give the same guarantee (b/c of baggage handler mishandling) the soft travel cover also has room inside for clothes & effects. Therefore, making it perfect for a golf weekend away because I'd only need to take one bag instead of two.

I was wondering whether readers have had any experiences with golf travel covers - good or bad?

I went searching for Harry's post on this and saw you looking at it too. That spares me trying to figure out how to link it. He's a self-described gearhead about bags, so I trust him on it. Enough that I put his recommendations on my wish list already (though you probably won't go for the mocha/pink color combo).

I have an old SKB hard case that i have now had for almost a decade.

It has been thrown all around the world and has not skipped a beat.

I originally got it for two main reasons: a > the hard v's soft insurance factor. b > it was the only one i could find that could take my then 10inch staff bag.

i think they are a great investment! As my golf gear is arguably the most expensive luggage I have checked, i want to keep them safe.

oh, i also have about 10 fragile stickers stuck on there. they seem to have done the trick. I would recommend buying your own stickers, as the airline's fragile tags end up coming off!

Maybe I am just a cynic, but I always feel putting fragile stickers would just encourage someone to throw the bag around.

I know most baggage handlers wouldn't bother, but it only takes one. This comes from a bit of experience, as I used to work at an airport during school. I have had a hard case golfguard for about 13 years now, and it has done the job perfectly everytime.

I have always used the soft cover for the reasons you mentioned; however, when traveling last week I witnessed the handling of some golf bags onto my plane and am seriously reconsidering. The way those bags were handled was very harsh and makes me want to get a hard carrier despite the bulkiness.

I'm not sure why I would put a fragile sticker on a golf bag travel cover; it's obvious what's in there.

I am heading down to Florida for Thanksgiving and am really looking forward to playing some golf. I was wondering what you guys recommend for a travel bag. I need to fly down there so I am guessing I need to check my clubs. Please let me know how you guys get your clubs from one side of the country to another. If you use a travel bag, what type? Thanks!

I use a CaddyDaddy Golf Co-pilot that is a hybrid bag. It's a hard-sided bag with wheels, pockets and a removable hard top that you can take straight to the course. I love the concept, but the design could be better. The wheels are a little too close together to provide the best stability. Also, the 6-way dividers didn't last very long. My clubs have been well-protected, though. You can check them out at their website, but can also find them cheaper on Overstock. --LBB

A few of the guys I work with are always going on "business" trips where golf is played. I am not sure of the brand or name but one guy has one that he swears by. He calls it the R2-D2. It has a hard top to protect the club heads and hard bottom and the middle is a durable fabric. When clubs are not in it, it will collapse on itself and look like a small R2-D2. He says a lot of the trips there are multiple guys taking a cab or rental car. With the big travel bags it is sometimes had to get them to fit in a car. The way this one collapses it takes up a lot less room.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it...I have a couple of weeks before I need to head down there so I'm sure I'll end up choosing based on your suggestions. Thanks again.

Not under $100, but the ClubGlider is the last and best travel bag you can find today in my opinion. Interview with the inventor here . You can save some money here .

I have two $100 bags. Guess what? They never get used anymore. I liken travel bags to tripods in photography... why spend $50, then $150, then $550 instead of just spending the $550 to begin with and saving the other $200?

    • Are free fittings a common thing? I was kind of under the assumption that there was usually a cost associated with them, unless you actually purchased their clubs or something.  What's the best way to find free ones?
    • I'd find a free fitting, take your clubs, and see what you can see. For example, we have a PXG fitter come to our academy every Tuesday, and he's great about sharing info about why he's having you hit a certain shaft or clubhead or something. And… if you don't see much of a change, skip it.
    • Day 1 (3 Apr 25) - Restarting the routine after a 4 day quick trip.  Got back in the groove today for some swings of the 6i and driver into the net -‘to just warm the muscles a little.  Wrapped up the day with grandson hitting 20-25 yd pitches in the backyard.  Love watching his swing and also his concept of course management, to hear him say he left himself in a good position to finish (good words from a soon to be 9 yr old)….
    • Day 185 - 2025-04-03 Had a good 2.5 hour session at Golf Evolution. Kinda glad it was still wet and windy out today as I wouldn't have gotten such a good session in if I played. Got up to 93 MPH (with a pause) on my 6I and 130 MPH ball speed (on a different slightly slower hit, a bit more de-lofted than I'll want eventually).
    • I'm highly probable for the entire weekend, thanks for doing the hard work to set it up.  I can't wait for more details.
