Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Brandel Chamblee on the Golf Channel just remarked that, although Rocco is on a high now, disappointment slowly will settle in. This is obviously true to an extent, but how much do you think Rocco will be bothered by this loss throughout his life?

that was a memorable 17th major for tiger, three more to catch jack at 20

Hard to argue with someone who has their facts down. What rock have you been living under?

These figures include US Amateur titles, which were commonly counted in major totals until the last several decades.

IMO, although I don't count Amateur titles as major championships (except maybe for those held before 1950), if Tiger wins exactly 18 professional majors, he will win the tiebreak over Jack by virtue of his 3 US Amateurs (Jack has 2). As for the tournament itself, it was great. NBC coverage, however, was weak this year. I used to be a huge Johnny Miller fan (I even started a thread last year saying how much I liked him: http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthr...=johnny+miller ), but he's getting on my nerves. His statements are so obvious; is he becoming the John Madden of golf?

Wow, what a great Open! It was so exciting to watch. I'm happy for Tiger that he won and Rocco played a fine game! Tiger's daughter is such a cutie! She looks just like her Nana...tiger's mum.

Not sure he'll make it to The Open if his knee's as bad as it looks. The balance will be difficult: risk permanent long-term injury or miss out on the rest of this year and get a few more years on the career?

PS- anyone who says Rocco 'blew it' obviously wasn't looking at the score. 90 holes, one under par on a tough and demanding course. He cocked up on a few holes in the middle, granted, but goodness me, didn't he fight back? Returned from 3 over to level par coming off 18. Marvellous!

I wouldn't say the John Madden of golf, but he did have some pretty obvious statements at times. Madden's just on a whole 'nother level. But I did notice that it seemed like Johnny always asked a question when he was making a statement. Usually it was to his coworkers but still, it was a little odd.

To say he "blew" anything is absurd. The guy went toe to toe with the best golfer who has ever sucked air.

AC,

You don't think being in the fairway, on a par 4, with a good chance to at least make par and failing to do so, is not blowing a golden opportunity? He repeated this on the 10th hole, too. He failed to capitalize on two opportunities to walk away with par. Instead, he walks away three down. Yes, he played awesome golf but those two holes should not have ended in bogeys.

I agree with you, I enjoyed watching the whole tournament. I feel glad for Tiger and sorry about Rocco but he played so well that I hope he could win one tournamnet this year.

Observations from this bad golfer:

Tiger won a Major in overtime when he wasn't supposed to even make the cut (to listen to some). I am sure he made some new golf fans today and that is always good.

The coverage: - I didn't like switching back and forth from ESPN/NBC but it is what it is. The commentators don't bother me all that much - I don't really listen to them a whole bunch as I am pretty intent into actually watching swings, lies, shots etc.

Tiger - yep the knee hurts after impact so I think he will be okay damage wise. I hope so anyway. I was a casual Tiger fan. I followed him but wasn't one of these people who obsessed over every detail. Got to say he impressed the heck out of me this weekend.

Rocco - what can you say? The 154th ranked man took the number 1 to 19 holes of playoff golf. The man played the game as it is supposed to be - FUN. The guy has a GREAT attitude and he got to do something just about every other guy on tour wants to do. Go a round just you and him and see who can do what. See how your game stacks up against who may be the best the world has ever seen at your sport. Rocco has NOTHING to feel ashamed about. He played an excellent 91 holes of golf on the large stage with the world #1 over a decade his junior.

I can really see myself golfing a round with the guy and sharing a beer and burger after. Can't say that about many other guys on tour. Needless to say he made me a fan of his this weekend. Got to believe that Callaway never thought it would be him flying their flag in a battle with Tiger this weekend.

I thought the NBC commentators were quite good this week overall. Hicks is what he is. Miller is pretty solid. Mark Rolfing is very good IMO. Roger Maltbie as well. Jimmy Roberts is a pretty good interviewer and reporter. Murphey is a nice mix in occassionally, and Gary Koch is pretty good too I believe. I really think NBC has a nice crew of announcers and they did a good job this week. ESPN, that's a different story, haha.

i still feel good for rocco, he should pick up alot of money from endorsements for pool cleaning supply companies and pool cleaners

    • I had a issue with the watch picking up the sensors on a consistent basis. I did what the instructions said, but since I have a GPS watch and an H4 I sent it back rather than to try to work out the issue.
    • The Golfing Machine calls a shorter full swing motion “pitching” IIRC but I don’t think that’s what was going on here. Did you get video or anything? Launch monitor data?
    • ^ right here. A short game pitching motion is not the same as a full swing in feel nor intent. It’s just not a mini-swing at all. Now if the instructor said to make slow full swings with a 6i and try to hit them only 100 yards, that would be more in line with what I view full swing instruction to be.
    • How does he fit for clubs with that setup?  I get this to an extent, but plenty of players have slightly different patterns with different clubs throughout their bag, but using that logic why not start with 3 foot putts or 5yd chip shots? I have quite different feels for a 20-40yd pitch shot than I do for a 140yd shot. Loft presentation at setup and impact, ground contact, weight transfer (or lackthereof), etc are all different on a 20-40yd shot vs a full iron shot.  If you enjoyed the lesson and found value in it that's great, personally I'd be a bit annoyed if I went in and wanted to work on full swing stuff and this guy has me doing 20-40yd pitch shots for an hour with my lob wedge.
