I shot a 71!!!!!

Too bad it was only 9 holes. Par 35.

Last week I shot a 53 on the same course, same 9 holes.
The week before I shot a 108 for the full 18 on that course.
Tonight? 71. Horrible.

I've been using my 3W as my Driver, since I'm just a beginner and I'm not comfortable with the big D yet. Normally, I've been getting consistant about 200 yards nice and straight. Tonight? Left or right. Take your pick. Nothing straight. Except once. And of course, I chunked my 2nd shot.

I hit 2 bunkers, and I've only ever hit one once before. Took me 3 shots to get out.

On the 9th hole, I lost 2 balls into water. I was about 70-90 yards shy, and about 120 to 150 yards to the green. All I had to do was hit my 7-iron 120 yards, which is a comforatble shot for me. I put it right into the water. So, I did the "Tin Cup" thing and dropped it in the same place as a "mulligan" to try such a simple shot again. SAME THING! Right into the water.

I took my drop on the other side. And then proceeded to chip over the green into some tall weeds. I almost lost that ball, too. At the last second one of the guys found it. Thankfully, he "accidentally" kicked it out of the weeds while looking for it to give me a decent chip back onto the green. Which I flew over, again, thankfully only onto the fringe.

I then proceeded to 4 putt.

Instead of finishing the 18, I called it a day and let the other 3 continue on without me.

What a night.

Shake it off and get em next time! We all have bad days. It's okay to love golf and hate it at the same time.

Perhaps it was a few more than 71?

Either way, get over it and go play again. What's done is done and the next time out you are going to have your best round ever!

dont worry about it, everyone was there when they were a beginner. it will come to you with experience

That might seem like a bad score, but put it past you and the next time you will shoot a 50 or under. That's the thing about golf, a bad hole or two could affect the rest of your game drastically.

When I first started playing, the guys I was with had a standing rule that you can't get more than an 8 on a hole. So, on a Par 4, if you hit your 8th shot into the woods, you'd just pick it up and move onto the next hole. It was mostly as a time saver, and some of the guys I play with are over 70 years old so it was a way to not get too tired before you finished the day.

For me, I stopped doing that. I count every stroke. I took a 10 on the 9th, a Par 4.

That 9th hole is what I call a "

Malfunction Junction ". I've been playing since the 60s and I do that crap every now and then. I finished second in our club championship (no, it's not a country club) because of an 11 on the par 5 16th. ( The winner beat me by 3 on that hole and 1 overall. It's not an easy hole but there are limits ). Some days you have it and some days it's like you are someone else (and not in a good way).

As far as entering your esc score you get to stop counting at 10. Once that handicap goes under 40 - you get to stop counting at 9. Just dont be like my wife when she walks off and says *just give me a 9* - if no one is behind you play out the hole for practice.

Hahah that's quite the title there. No shame in using your 3 wood instead of Driver. I actually find my self doing that sometimes when my woods on and my driver is not. If your local club has a short range or a practice green work on that. If you can master 100 yds and in, you'll be in good shape even if your drives are not the straightest. I watched playing with the pros the other day (Jeff Ogilvy) and one of the tips he gave was practice chipping and your short pitches often because it teaches you very solid contact.

due, my friend shot a 156 on the front the first time we ever took him out on the course. 156!!! haha, thats rediculous!

We were planning on playing a full 18, but I figured since I have shot enough strokes for 18 already that I'd just quit at 9.
