I golf in my cart and I have a cd player there, usually turned on the radio but I enjoy listening to music while I play, I think it calms me down. I'm curious what you all like?

Only when I'm practicing at the range or the putting green.
I actually don't like people like you who play music in their carts for the course to hear.
I usually have a song stuck in my head for the whole round and I'll think of it when I go through my routine and when I walk, but no, not during a round.

I find it ruins the whole atmosphere of golf. I love hearing the peace and quite and the birds chirping or singing. Call me a loser if u must but it calms me down and allows me to concentrate

I really dont feel that music belongs on the golf course - even if golfing alone. I see a few people with ipods on the range - but they arent hurting anyone else so its their business.

Absolutely not.... golf takes my total attention. There are enough distractions during the normal course of play, I don't need any that are self created.

I listen to my iPod and seem to play better when I do so. I listened to my iPod today and was only +3 thru 14 holes until I nearly stepped on a big snake that slithered into a pond. So I then decided that maybe I should take out the earphones and become more aware of my surroundings!

I like to listen to audiobooks on my ipod while on the practice green. I've found audiobooks very helpful in a lot of situations - for instance I have driven across the country a couple of times with a bunch of audiobooks to listen to, and they keep me awake and interested, while helping to pass the time much better than music. They can do the same thing on the practice green. I relax a lot more. Sure I don't have 100% of my focus on the putt, but considering how often I over-focus and make mistakes, that's a good thing - it helps me think about the important thing - which is to get the ball in the hole.

If I am playing by myself I will take the audiobook out with me onto the course sometimes (with only one earpiece in to be able to hear people shouting Fore, of course). I like the silence and sounds of little birds chirping, but I sometimes get lonely out there, and start filling the silence with over-analyzation

Have to say I enjoy listening to my ipod while on the range or putting green, but not while playing a round. I also enjoy the surroundings. And where i play i could have a bear, moose or elk, or even a wolf or something come out and cause trouble if I cant hear them coming. I enjoy Alternative mostly but hip hop is my second choice.

I never listen to music when playing or practicing. Not only do I like to be aware of my surroundings (and people who might call out my name or "Fore!" or something), but I don't like to mess with my own natural tempo by having music. Plus the cords can be a little annoying, even as thin as they are.

yeah, i'm too much of a music nerd to listen to it when i practice/play. been playing drums for 7 years, guitar for 3ish, piano for 2, harmonica for a little, trombone for 2.5.

so i'll be thinking about what kind of beat/riff i would have played in a spot, or listening to the structure of the song, not realizing that i just made a small garden behind my golf ball

if you play Gangsta Bitch or snoop's verse from ain't no fun
when he starts with:
"guess who's back in the motherf'in house, with a fat di** for your motherf'in mouth. ni**as recognize, ho*s do too."

bump that while you roll onto the 1st tee to start the day off..while you sip some E&J; or a 40, and you're good to go.

When I golf solo, I take my PSP and play some music at a decent volume level. Of course, I turn it off/mute when others are nearby. Makes the golfing more enjoyable IMO

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
