Are there any cheap ones out there besides the R7?

I have a bit of a slice and I think it would help me. The is $150. I'm looking for something in that range, or maybe used and cheaper.

I got my R7 for 150, I had upgraded from a no name driver. It's straightened my fade definitely, but I've started to pull the ball at times. It was definitely worth it, my driving distances rose at least 20 yards (I switched from a Senior flex 10 deg to a Stiff Flex 9 deg) and I am more accurate. I'd definitely look into the R7, I don't have any experience with other cheaper models, but for $150, I think it's a steal.

STAY AWAY from draw-biased equipment. I played with a rep from a company that I won't name down in Mexico last year, and he said: since most of the golf population has a chronic slice, they try to sell these drivers, but a draw bias will not really cure a slice. and why would you want a club that will only let you hit the ball 1 way unless you extremely compensate to turn a fade or hit it straight.

why don't you try a closing your stance a little bit or flattening your swing plane...or maybe a combination of both? you'd be surprised how much 1" lower on your swing plane will really straighten that ball and let you crack it straight down the fairway.

most slicers is caused by out to in swing path which really cannot be cured by a draw driver. i got this disease and what helped me was going to an in to out swing path and it has worked.

THe R7 is a good choice, its pretty and it dosn't look "drawish". THe Ping G10 is a great option as well, but the price is twice of the R7.

Have you thought about preowned? I picked up my R5 Dual Type D at Golf Galaxy for $49.95. It's like new and even has an oversized Lamkin grip on it. I wasn't sure I wanted a draw driver so figured I couldn't go wrong for $49.95. Turns out I really like it. It's helped my game immensely. I still slice once in a while which usually happens when I fail to turn through the shot properly and end up swinging with my upper body. Otherwise, I hit the ball a lot straighter with the R5 than with any other driver I've ever used. BTW: I rarely ever hit a true draw with it but have been known to pull the ball straight left. Thankfully, I've pretty much got that problem under control by going to a more neutral grip.

Bought a new R7 Draw for $140 off ebay with that cash back thing I saw on here. Wound up with a net purchase of $115 after my $25 back.

    • I appreciate that you have taken the time to come back and update. Based on what was previously discussed I feel like the points were; forged, feel good, price, and possibly players distance. If you like the "looks" of those Maxfli irons and if price is a major point, then going straight to the source, Maltby, might make sense. Specifically, the TS3 iron. I was looking into this myself and found some reviews: Fit2YouGolf, Lets Play Thru, and ELITE FIT GOLF. As per your update I found the Maxfli to be ~$1300 fitted the way I wanted. Where the TS3 with the same fitting and assembled by Golfworks was less than $750. I suppose the downside is to actually hit the iron you will need to get lucky and find someone in your golf circle who will let you hit theirs or order a 6 or 7 iron to test. However, the way I look at that is being equivalent to some fittings. If you like the results and buy, then the fitting is free, otherwise the price of the fitting is a sunk cost. If name brand is important, then I submit for your consideration - THE BEST OVERALL IRON of 2024...... FACT !! 😉 A bit tongue in cheek that but also, I feel some good points were discussed.
    • Day 150 1-10 focus on arching the wrist and getting the ball to go left. Recorded, hit foam balls.
    • Day 467 - 2026-01-10 Practiced at Pinehurst every day I was there, and before Junior Elite this morning I got fifteen minutes of backswing checks in the mirror in.
