Occasionally when I sink a tough short putt I have a small fist pump.
I've never seen anyone do fist pumps or celebrations for drives unless they hole it?

I don't have one as it relates to the results of a shot, but I do twirl the grip of the putter clockwise when I address my ball when putting. I guess I got it from Phil some years ago, I don't know. Doesn't he do that?

With a good drive I do the Tiger release the grip and catch the club by its head trick after holding my finish position well after the ball has come to a complete stop.

When I hit a long putt, I drop my putter so it lays across my feet and I jump up gesturing like a basketball jump shot and promptly exclaim "Nothin But Net". (yes its sad but true)

I wasn't going to post in this thread b/c I didn't want to be silly, but since you've already said it, I do the same thing! When I chip one in or knock one stiff from the FW, I look at my buddies and give them the imaginary jumper. We've been doing silly stuff like this since that stupid song "Ballin'" came out...

I also give my well struck iron the extra two second hold then the club twirl as it slide down to my hands. If I make a long putt with meaning, I just smile and give a little wink to my playing partners. I don't want to get too worked up b/c I will probably bogey the next hole anyway.

I can't help but do a fist pump like I'm doing a Rocky body shot. It just happens.

What annoys me is when someone hits a good shot then does that little flip of the hand wave.

yeah, when a long putt goes in (which happens maybe once a round) i'll give it the point.

of course, i do it prematurely sometimes, and the ball lips out.

long putts = 1st the fist pump...but i've always done the fist pump with any sport i've played..except for bowling..bowling was a thunder clap for every strike I had in a row.
so i'll fist pump and say something like yeah baby.. and then....breathe out a sigh of relief that I didn't add an extra stroke on the hole..especially if i'm putting for par.

If anything goes anywhere REMOTELY close to where I pointed it, I do the silly grin and chuckle , as if to say, "I can't believe how easy that was" since this stupid game is so frustratingly simple. You hit the ball. That's all you have to do. Its not like Smoltz is firing it at you at 99mph... its just sitting there.

So, when I do hit a good one, I just laugh at myself for all the mistakes I've made throughout the day since I should be hitting all of them that well.

Been thinking of adding this one to my repetiore, all in the voice of 'Lil John..

As the long putt approaches the hole.... "Whaaaat!??? Whaaaaattt???"

As it sinks... really loud... and with the grillz grin and head nod..... "Yeeeeaaaahhhh"!

If it just stops within 1 foot..... walking towards it like I meant to do that.... "O kaaayyyy!"

No, just kidding. Probably would give some senior golfer a heart attack. Although last game, my buddies and I took the song "But Then I Got High" and did a golf parody. Started on the 16th tee, by the 17th green we couldn't contain ourselves. Everyone was humming it over their putts.

Just a taste...

"I thought that I was Tiger Woods, but then I got high"
"Was gonna hit it straight over the woods, but then I got high.. ba dat dat"
"Now I'm hacking out for four, and I know why... why man?... oh yeah.. because I got high, because I got high, because I got high!"

And it went on and on and on.....

My signature move:

Top the ball on the #1 tee, so it dribbles up to the ladies tee box. I figure if my buddies are gonna laugh at me, I may as well get used to it from the get-go, rather than let it ambush me later on when I think I'm doing well.

my bad move is after a good hole, hitting my drive into a hazard/o.b and then striping my provisional down the middle of the fairway.

another one that is good is when a good shot is in the air, just start walking towards the green

    • Wow, @DeadMan that is such a helpful breakdown of what’s around. Really excited to check a bunch of these out. Thank you. Will definitely go to Walnut Creek. Will also try and get a commonground tee time. Haven’t played many Doak courses yet! If your schedule frees up, let me know!
    • Yeah. I'm not sure what Vishal is really talking about with the "constrained" COM. The club's COM doesn't really change much. Less than the body's does… We definitely apply force to the golf club to move it both translationally (linear force) and rotationally (torque) to the golf club. That's what Manzella's alpha/beta/gamma is all about. Even before they switched the reference frame from the global to the club-based one. 😉
    • Any time you apply a force to an object that is not directly through the COM, you're applying a torque. Take a car for example. If a car is moving and you hit the brakes, the only contact point is on the ground. The brakes make the tires slow down which applies a force backwards at ground level. Since that force is not applied directly to the COM, it also applies a torque, which makes the car rotate forwards. The suspension at the front applies another torque upwards to fight against that twist (because the ground is in the way). You can feel the front end of the car dip when you brake. Then, when you stop braking and that force is no longer applied, the tires stop applying that torque to the car and the car feels like it rocks backwards as the suspension evens itself out. That's all torques being applied. Ignoring the twist forces applied to the club leaves you way short of being able to describe the motion. Otherwise the orientation of the club would never change.
    • I think you're getting into the coupling point or the couple of the hands, but that's a different ball of wax.
    • This will be interesting…
