It is. I hate to rank on a guy, but he couldn't be more wrong. The downswing should start with the left knee moving towards the target to begin with. Then the hips should *rotate*, not slide towards the target. When you slide the hips, that causes the spine from the face on view to tilt backwards. Ideally you want that spine as close to a 90 degree angle as you can get from the face on view. Because when the spine tilts backward, that naturally opens the clubface. For instance, take your normal address position. Now just tilt your spine backwards so it's at about a 60 degree angle from the face on view. If you do what I'm telling you, that clubface naturally opens up.

The only thing were Ray Boone is sort of on track is that a lot of over the top moves are caused by the golfer initiating the downswing with their upperbody instead of initiating it with the lower body. The problem is Boone incorrectly thinks it's initiated with the hips...by sliding them when it's initiated with the left knee and then the hips rotate, then the left shoulder rotates, and then the hands drop and then the club drops. A big problem with the confusion of golf is the greatness of Ben Hogan. Hogan had a major hip slide in his swing and golfers started to believe that's how you swing. But Hogan started out his career with a huge hook and the sliding of the hips turned that closed clubface into a square one. 3JACK

"and then the hands drop and then the club drops" definetly tru for 2 plane swing !

for one plane you should be in right delivery position with "it's initiated with the left knee and then the hips rotate, then the left shoulder rotates". regards,

Hogan reiterates time and again in Five Lessons to stay below the shoulder plane in your backswing, and to initiate the downswing with your hips not your hands. Virtually impossible to go over the top if you follow that simple prescription.
