As an ex smoker who also used to smoke during a round I have no problem if someone I'm playing with chooses to smoke. I also don't care if I'm watching golf on TV and Shigeki Maruyama or John Daly or Fuzzy is smoking.

I have drank on the course but at the most it was 3 beers. It doesn't happen often as I normally play at 7AM. Little bit early to be drinking.

I do have golf to thank for helping me quit though. I told myself Arnold Palmer quit young and look how healthy he is today. I'm hoping I will be the same.

After I quit cold turkey it was tough the first round I played as a non smoker. I'm still wanting to try out some cigars on the course but I'm afraid that once my body felt that sweet wonderfull feeling from the nicotine that rushes through your blood and brain I would be a full blown smoker again.

The common thread - beyond actual smoking is littering. I am sick and tired of butts on the course, beer and soda cans just tossed along the fairways and my latest gripe sunflower seed shells all over the green.

...oh yeah - tobacco spit.

Bury me with a golf glove in my pocket - just in case!

I don't mind a good cigar sometimes when I'm golfing. It helps me play better when I'm struggling. I think mainly it's giving me something else to think about.

I am a smoker and intend to stay that way. I am respectful of others and even carry a small cup to put my cigarettes in. I don't drink while playing golf cause I already have enough problems with staying in balance
My little story goes like this. One day I was put into a threesome and at the first tee one of the guys made a comment about me being a smoker and how unhealthy it is and he hates anyone that smokes. I am in good physical shape and this guy was 35-40 lbs. overweight. I asked him if being healthy was that important to him and he said naturally. So since I was walking the course and they were riding I made a deal with him. If he would get his fat lazy a$$ out of the cart and walk the course then I would not smoke the entire time. They rode and I walked and smoked.
Everyone has a right to do what they want but just don't tell me what I like or want. If you want to ride then do it. If I want to walk and smoke then that's what I will do.

I don't mind smoking..maybe because I grew up in a smoking environment (not me but my dad, uncles, grandfather). I take an occasional dip once in a while (is this considered smoking?) Something with chewing and hitting that goes well with one another.

I'm curios to know what PGA pros some on course though..I've heard there are a bunch..think Tom Watson does..anyone else?

    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
