i think the integrity of the game has diminished greatly. some people don't get the concept of actually being a gentleman

If I'm out with my dad or friend they really could care less if I go or they go no matter who had a better score on the hole. we just want to play at a good pace and keep up with the group ahead of us...i dont really see how that's not being a gentlemen...if im playing with strangers i always use the honors system.

I think the concept of maintaining a good pace of play has diminished exponentially more than "integrity."

Playing out of turn when you're not actually even playing a match (just a casual handicap round) has nothing to do with integrity or being a gentleman. I play honors when I'm in a match (though sometimes it can get complex when you're in a team event and you split points on a hole, like, "low ball, low net") and occasionally someone will have to take a leak and we'll ignore honors for a hole, but the rest of the time, I tend to play "honors ready" golf. If the guy with the honors is ready, he plays. Otherwise, someone else who is ready goes. And when I'm playing with people who hit the ball vastly different distances off the tees, we play "distance ready" golf on days when we're waiting on people ahead of us - you can probably figure out what I mean by that.

Ready golf diminishes the integrity of the game? That seems a little harsh. I think we can consider pace of play without jeopardizing the integrity of the game.

I agree with the honours ready comment. I think that keeping up the pace of play should be your first consideration as slow play is a cardinal sin in my book, rather than making sure honours are followed.
