I've been playing my nike cpr cavity backs for three years now and think it's time for a change. I would like some thoughts on different types of irons, like forged , blades , etc for a mid-capper wanting to get to a single dig index. Also what brands do you suggest and why . Thanks

Mizuno. I really liked the way they felt...the MP57's that is. You could try something with a little more forgiveness if you want...but it's not that thin.

Mizuno MP-57 is the best iron IMO. They offer a nice blend of forgiveness, feedback, and workability all packed with that legendary forged Mizuno feel.

I got my MP-57s at a handicap well north of your 18. Since you're wanting to get to a single digit index, I'm guessing you aren't just wishing, but are willing to do some practice. A set of players' irons - I like the MP-57s, but you should demo some cut cavity players' irons and see which feel you like. The Bridgestone J36 and Ping i10s are also nice.

On this forum you might as well ask which model of mizuno irons you should get! lol. Seriously though I notice you currently play nike irons so why not try out the nike cci forged irons or even the cast irons? There are some good deals around at the moment on those and they are very good. I would also go along with what shindig said and try out the ping i10's too.

at an 18 you should know what you can and can't do. are you looking to really improve and put time into the game? Or are you gonna be a recreational golfer getting out once a week and hardly working on your ball striking?
If you're the latter, I'd say stay with a cavity back/forgiving club that'll give you the distance on mishits & won't really penalize you. You can even go with the mp-57 which is supposed to be more of a "players" iron, but still has forgiveness. At the end it's what feels best and is justifiable by you.
try a bunch of irons and blind test them. that way you won't be swayed or partial b/c you won't know what iron you're swinging.
