Master Scotty Cameron Putters: Worth It or Not? Thread

Yes a couple things matter in a putter but if we really think about it a lot more goes into other clubs. I'll say it again though, when people go for a putter they get fitted for what?....length and like 1* of loft? When people buy other clubs they get fitted for many more variables. I'll even quote some guy named jack waddell who wrote an article about club innovation on this very website, "Unfortunately, staying on the cutting edge never really changed my scores all that much." Therefore buying cutting edge scotty's is not worth the money.

unless you're an equipment who** and get some sick satisfaction out of having all the prototypes/newest most badass equipment.

Scotty's are defiantly worth the money but so is oddesy black series bryon morgan putters bettanardi machince putters kia mia tp many more 300 plus putters i wouldnt say scotty is a great deal better then a bryon morgan

That doesn't mean people actually fit themselves. With putters, at least, people fit themselves for length. Something like 90% of iron sets are standard length, lie, grip, etc.

Therefore buying cutting edge scotty's is not worth the money.

To you. For others, the putter is the fastest way to shave strokes from their game.

Length, loft, lie, grip, just like any other club(s). Other than shaft flex, what other variable goes into "many more"?

Well this thread was meant to talk about the average golfer as someone is asking if camerons are worth it. For your average golfer, a putter is mostly just a confidence thing and most people will just pick one they like. With other clubs though, people HAVE to make sure they get all the specs right for their swing. Therefore my logic is still undeniable that a cheaper putter will likely roll the ball just as well as an expensive one. If you want to be a tour pro and buy the $1000 scottys be my guest but I assume the average golfer will not.

The conversation wasn't about $1000+ tour SC putters. It's about $300 OTR putters that can be found used for around $200.

So I guess new irons, wedges, woods, or driver isn't worth it either?

Love my Midslant...but.....if I were in the market for another, then I'd give the milled Cleveland putters a serious look.

I got a Scotty Cameron Red x for free from my uncle. I also have a Ping G2 which I greatly prefer. The Red x is nice, don't get me wrong, but i find it tough to use it on faster greens. And as such, the Ping is staying in my bag for a while

I notice that quite a few of you guys play a Scotty Cameron putter. Are they really worth the money? I know a putter is very personal thing and I love my Odyssey 2 Ball center shaft putter and it is the only non "Scotty Cameron type" putter that I have ever played. Just curious and this is a pretty informative and cool site.

If youre happy with the two ball, i cant really see much reason in getting a scotty.. I know alot of players who putt great with those things.

Its whatever feels best to you, putters aren't too technologically advanced compared to most clubs, and its just personal taste

For me, I play a scotty because more than anything ti gives me complete confidence whenever I step up to the green

They are worth it for those who think they are worth it, lol. Meaning to those who putt well because their Scotty looks and feels right to them, they are priceless. That goes for any putter that fits that bill.

I'm an astronomically high handicapper so my insight is worth far less than the time spent typing it, but...

When I was putter shopping, I was actually pretty averse to Scotty putters simply because of the hype. I'm just iconoclastic like that. If anything, I walked into the situation NOT wanting to have anything to do with SC putters.

Damned if I didn't come across a SC in the used putter section at Golf Galaxy that almost managed to talk me into getting it. Very smooth feel. It wasn't the 'style' of putter I was looking for, so I put it down and moved on with my life (And ended up falling in putter love with a TM CC Rossa Daytona)... BUT, I do have to give the SC kudos for overcoming my randomly irrational bias.

You really have to try a bunch out. I've tried Scottys in the past that I have not liked. I really like my Studio Select though, will probably keep it for a long time. The weighting feels much better to me than the 2-ball I was playing before.

Agree with the above posts... try them out. I know it's hard to figure out on a turf putting green in a golf shop, but you'll definitely get a sense of the feel. For me, it is not about the brand of putter, but the distinguishing features. Milled vs insert, mallet vs. blade, shaft style, etc.

I played an Odyssey insert putter for a few years, and over time wasn't real happy with my performance. So, I switched to a milled, non-insert blade... and after trying a bunch of them out I settled on a Scotty Cameron. It wasn't becasue of the name (I've tried some SC I hated), it just feels right.
