Yesterday, I received a club (20° Cobra Baffler Pro) that I had purchased off of eBay. Take it out of the box, which appeared to be in normal condition, and the club was broken in half. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Kinda sucks a lil bit...

Any chance you purchased insurance?

Just checked and yes. Loss/damage insurance up to $100.... which covers what I'd paid for the club.

This was the first item that I'd won off of eBay. Was hoping to not have to go through this (not sure if it's ruined the "eBay experience" for me yet). Oh well, the rest of the club (head/cover) is in nice shape. Just have to get it reshafted.

hmm... how was the sellers rating

do you think it was damaged during the shipping process or broken from the get go. I always try to follow a few simple rules with ebay

a) rating and amount of golf items sold
b) actual pictures of item, not just clubhead but try to bid on auctions that show several shots of the club fully constructed
c) avoid ANYTHING from Asia, not saying everything coming from over there is fake but its better to be safe than sorry

at least you were covered

Sellers feedback was 100% but not a lot of transactions. All of the feedback comments were good.

I really can't say that it was damaged in the shipping process. The box it was shipped in was in tact, secure and didn't appear to take any abuse. It was the manufacturers box too. With this being the case, am I out of luck on the insurance if it wasn't damaged in the shipping process? The item had $100 loss/damage insurance through eBay and $200 through paypal.

Next question....where is a good place to get a good shaft/grip?

I've seen the way some boxes have been dropped by courier companies, and I'm not surprised that something would be broken someday.

Just as well you had insurance.

Contact the seller first and see what he says before leaving a negative,it
might be easily resolved, might not be his fault and more than likely he will reimburse your money.

If it comes to that, I will. He said nothing about the club being broken. Wierd thing is he placed a note in the box saying "Sorry about the delay. Been having family problems" or something to that effect. That's why I'm undecided as to if the club was broken prior to or in transit.

I've sent him an e-mail with pics of the box and the club. Hopefully I'll hear back from him and be able to resolve this in another fashion. Not sure what I'd request though. Maybe split the cost of reshafting it or something like that. Really don't want to go through the whole eBay protection thing. Would rather just get the club reshafted and be able to use it.

in the future take out an insurance policy on your bag through your homeowners insurance

I have a 4000 policy that costs me 80 bucks a year, its well worth it

this wouldnt cover your situation, and not to promote fraud but you can work it around so they'll take care of you

Wow a $4000 dollar policy that costs $80? THen I really hope it has a ZERO deductible. Because that is quite high. Myself and all my playing partners have policies on them, and none of us pay more than $40 with a $50 deductible. As far as this goes though, obviously this case would not be relevant.

If I sent you a club, and it DID get broken in shipping, and you left me negative feedback.....I wouldn't feel like I owed you a thing. I think it's funny that leaving immediate negative feedback is suggested.

Once feedback has been left, the transaction is OVER for me.

Yes, always start with trying to workl it out with the seller. Then take it form there..

josh, it literally covers EVERYTHING! and at 80 dollars a year you'd be foolish not to have it... also, 80 dollars covers 4 grand... which is actually a pretty high estimation of my bag... but I counted all of the work I had done to my clubs, not just the off the rack MSRP

I actually just found out about this over the last couple of weeks when I booked two tee times at ballybunion and lahinch

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
