Got my first handicap in.. 17.5. Way lower than I was expecting. I fully expect that to jump up closer to between 22-25.

I think my handicap is scewed because of the 5 scores i had in there to get my first handicap 4 were at my executive courses where I do shoot around bogey golf. I think once I put in some scores at some more challenging courses that it will climb.

I'm playing a course Saturday that is a 71.5/131. It should do wonders for that handicap :)

Funny thing is I called my mother with this news (being the proud son and all) here is how that conversation went...

me: Well mom I'm a 17.5
her: there is no way your a 17.5 You are probably really a 30
me: well that's what GHIN says I am
her: they screwed something up. I shoot in the mid to high 80's and i'm a 22.
me:well i'm sure it's this low because most scores were at my executive course. And the only other score i had in there was the 96 i shot at the hard course I told you about
her:are you counting every stroke you take? There is no way you have a better handicap than me. Has someone been playing with you to verify your scores?
me:....
me:hey i'm at work i got to go bye.

Ahh now I truly realize why I am so screwed up in the head. Needless to say I won't be keeping her up to date with my scores/handicap any longer.

HAha! I can just FEEL the love there. What has your lowest and highest score been on your executive course? How many rounds did you turn in, just 5? I think you need at least 10 to get a "good" idea of your true handicap.

low was a 76 on a par 58. twice. High was an 85 twice on the par 62. Low regulation length was 96. High was 105. So that's 6 rounds.

Again I think the handicap is scewed because of those exectutive course rounds even though they have a low rating/slope.

Your handicap with 6 rounds is only considering your best round of golf. The other scores are irrelevant.

I threw my clubs into the lake so it's time to start over...

Does your family play cards? I bet the competition is fierce. I say offer to play her even up for laundry or cooking services from her, yard work or chores from you.

One of the reasons why I love golf. You can compete with any family member regardless of age.

her: they screwed something up. I shoot in the mid to high 80's and i'm a 22.

She must be playing really easy tees to be a 22 with those scores (something like a 65 rating/110 slope).

Actually, that may not be an unusual rating/slope for ladies tees. But anyway, that would explain why her handicap is what it is.

Thanks guys. I'm sure once I get some more scores in I will be closer to a 20-22. Keep you guys posted.

LOL...your mom sounds like shes pretty cool. It is possible that your handicap is artificially low because the courses you play on arent all that difficult.

The more scores you post, the more accurate your handicap will be. Your best rounds are disproportionately represented in the begining.

Yes as stated earlier i fully expect the handicap to rise once more scores come in. I just thought the conversation with my mom was classic. She was truly pissed about it.

haha yea thats what happened to me. I guessed i was around a 13 handicap because i average about an 85. So i started adding my scores in and put in a 40 from the back tees and all of a sudden im like a 6.7 haha. Now after 11.5 rounds im an 8.8 but thats because i just shot 78 today :) In a few more weeks ill be a little higher.

    • I don't think anyone will really care.   It's your call.  Just be consistent.
    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
    • This is my opinion as well. I would love to see the LPGA take the lead on this.    This.
    • I agree in general. The one way in which the viewer will notice the pace of play is just that "it's been an hour and Nelly Korda or Scottie Scheffler have only played four holes." Or if for some reason they show a lot of shots of players just standing around when they could be showing golf shots. But I think Andy Johnson said it most recently/best, playing fast is a skill, too. I would love for pro golfers to play faster. You'd see the players you want to see hit more shots in the same time than they do now. So I don't disagree with the pace of play stuff, and hope they can find ways to do it. Heck, the LPGA should leap at the chance to differentiate itself in this way, IMO. So: I stand by what I said in that the TV viewer really doesn't notice much about pace of play. It's rare when they do. I support increasing the pace of play wholeheartedly. But my top five reasons don't include TV ratings or viewership.
