i am going to buy a scotty cameron and i found one of the tour issues models for a really really good price. however, i was told by the seller that this putter is too special to be played, and im like, really scotty cameron makes thousands of putters each year that are tour issued. It is a Scotty Cameron Studio Stainless Newport 2 Tour Issue that is brand new with the Titleist Black chord grip. Would you play it? Or would u store it and sell it later?

The only Scotty putters I wouldn't unwrap/use are the limited edition models he makes every year.

How much are you getting it for? Does it have a COA? It could very well be a fake.

Also tour scottys are not too nice to be played. I know several people that play thier tour scottys and if I could justify the cash for one I sure as hell would play it. If in a few years you decide you want to sell it, you can send it in for a complete restoration and it will be as good as new, you wont loose any value either so I dont really see why you couldnt play it.

hmmm idk if i would play it or not. i mean i know they said the only one they would play are the limited edition ones he makes every year but the tour SC putters also go for alot of money, and if it is brand new in a couple of years it will go for even more.

its a tough call, but hten again. Playing with a tour version scotty cameron is probably insane.

lol idk wat to say, flip a coin on it xD

A "Tour" putter is worth very little more than a regular old Scotty. I believe it's only when a putter is made for a certain Tour player - Davis Love, Brad Faxon, whomever - and has some personalization that the price goes up.

I wouldn't buy it at all. If you plan to play with it, why spend more? Just get a regular one. If you plan to stare at it dreamingly or as an investment, I doubt it'll go up much.

The Cameron that I have was bought on ebay from a guy that said he played on the tour for a while. He told me that Titleist handed out Camerons to anyone that wanted one and that he had 4 more that he was going to sell over time. It came with the grip still wrapped in plastic and was obviously never used.

I have no idea if his story was true or not but he never mentioned anything about it being special because it was "tour issued." Not sure what that even means or how the club would be different.

i have a limited edition model and i play with it every now and then as long as weather conditions are perfect. most people you play with wont even know what a limited edition putter is, but its nice to have and flash to test to see if they know what it is.

A "Tour" putter is worth very little more than a regular old Scotty. I believe it's only when a putter is made for a certain Tour player - Davis Love, Brad Faxon, whomever - and has some personalization that the price goes up.

As soon as you a putter has the "Circle T" on it the price goes up drastically. Tour issue Detours go for as little as $500, or as much as $1000. I'm pretty sure it doesnt matter who it was made for as long as it has the words "Tour use only" or the Circle T on it you are going to have a noticeable price jump. Now if you have one for example that was issued to Mark O'Meara with his initials stamped on it then it will jump in price even more.

So anyway in reality is it going to putt any better than a regular scotty? Not really, but is it cool to have and is it a collectors item? Definitely. It all depends on what you want it for. If you are planning on collecting Scottys then it is better than a stock off the shelf putter. However if you are just looking for a very nice putter I suggest you look for one of the off the shelf models.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
