Well folks, for the past month Ive been working on my hybrids, but I just dont like them.
I hit them nice and high, but not very straight. This afternoon I pulled out my 1-iron and it was like a revelation. I didnt hit the ball real high, but they were dead straight and with no sidespin. I say I was hitting them about 200-210 yards with the 1-iron.
So, long story short, its back to the long irons for me. I realize that there will be some instance where I will have to lay up, such as if its an elevated green or a green that is protected by water, but I just feel so much more comfortable hitting an iron than I do a hybrid.
Anybody wanna buy a couple Titleist 503Hs? If not, looks like they are going on Ebay.

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?

You can hit a ONE IRON better than a hybrid? wtf? lol

LOL...Yup. I just play the ball a little foreward in my stance and make a nice, easy swing. The ball goes about 200 yards with very little sidespin.
Im no Ben Hogan, but I do alright...
I used to always love the look that people would give me when we'd come up to a 200-yard par 3 and they'd be like, "what club you hittin'?" and Id be like, "1-iron."
They'd always kind stare at me for a second and be like, "No, seriously, what club are you hitting?", then Id pull out the 1, show it to them and say, "1-iron".
Just because the so-called, "experts" say that hybrids are the way to go, that doesnt make it so.
Now if only I can lose a little more weight so that I can fit into my knickers, Id really be kickin' it old school!

That is kind of odd - especially since I struggle with my 1 hybrid (but I will give it more than a month)

In all seriousness some more forgiving hybrids may have been a better choice. I can understand wanting to be all Titleist - but not everyone of their clubs is going to be properly suited for everyone.

Yeah, Id heard that the 503Hs were hook machines and that there wasnt a lot of love for them, but I got them cheap, so I figured it was worth a shot.
I tried them, didnt like 'em and now its time to move on.

YES! VICTORY!

Finally, you and i are the minority..

I can bang my two iron off the tee, maybe out of the fairway, not so much on the rough tho.. i try a hybrid, they get really high, or really low. plus, 3 irons arent THAT hard to hit. Everyone just says they are, so people have it in their head that they are harder to hit. My two cents at least.

keep rockin it old school..

I can hit a 2 and 3 iron. I'm just shocked you can hit a ONE IRON.

Why? Its not that hard to hit. You just gotta play it foreward in your stance like its a fairway wood and sweep the ball off the ground.

I have a one hybrid that I mostly use off the tee or if I have a lie I am uncomfortable hitting an iron out of. I feel more confident that I can hit a long iron straight and get it to stick on the green. I just like the feel better. Long irons I feel the ball, hybrid I feel so disconnected.

haha you're so lucky to have a 1 iron
I really wanna pick up a ping eye2 1 iron i saw at a store last week
But I agree, leaving the 2 iron in my bag has really helped me improve ballstriking simply by helping me remember to keep me head down...or else

I think Im going to keep working with these hybrids before I give up on them. The thing is, I want to have more wedges and if I go to having a driver, 3-wood, 1-9 irons, a PW, SW and a putter, that puts me at the limit of 14 clubs.
However, if I replace the 1-4 irons with my 19* and 22* hybrids, the opens me up to having 2 more wedges and I feel that more wedges are more important than more long irons.
As I sit right now, I have a pretty big gap between my PW (I think its a 44*) and my 60* Vokey. Id like to add a 52* and 56* Vokeys to my bag.

If I were you, I'd add a 50* and a 56*. I think it's easier to hit partial shots with a wedge than a PW, so I'd go with a lower lofted GW, but keep the 56* SW.

Not to mention, you don't even need a 1 or 2 iron if you want no hybrids. Just a 3-PW should do if you can hit your 3W off the fairway.

True. I could always just take the hybrids out if I just dont like them and just have a driver, 3-wood, 3-PW, then have 3 wedges and a putter. Hmmm, I might have to give that some consideration. Perhaps this Sunday when I play my round I will try that.
I just really think that more wedges are more important than more long clubs, you know?

Im the same as you, hybrids just don't work for me. My dad got the same one you did, and he hits a perfect fade with it every time, which is weird because he hits a draw with every other club, but i cannot make solid contact with the thing, i have hit long irons so much cleaner. Not as high, but i can make solid contact much more often.
