Do you and your buddies "have a good time" on the course?

What I mean is when you and your friends go out golfing do you like to drink and let loose a little bit or is it strictly golf?

I've played with a few different sets of friends and I've notcied with some I will go out and drink some beers and have a good time while with others it is strictly about golf.

It's quite funny actually some guys I know are simply horrible until they get a few brews in them. Some guys are just there to get drunk and hit a ball around. And then there's me who wants to have a couple but not too many and still hit a decent round.

I have a friend who lives in California and comes to my area a few times a month. Lived here his whole life and still owns his house here. Well he is a Medical Marijuana Patient so he must have his 'medecine' before he plays. Well here's the thing, this guy is pretty bad sober I mean he will shoot 110+. But once he gets his 'medecine' he averages in the 80's !!

But my point here is not to make a party thread or anything. I just want to see if anyone else here ever has a round like this when you're out with just the guys.

I'll probably have one of these 1-2 times a month (considering I play about 3 times a week minimum). Anyone else?

I personally don't drink while I'm out on the course, but some of the people I play with do. Sometimes it makes them play better, or it just makes them plain bad.

I don't separate "strictly golf" from having a good time. I will (rarely) have a single beer at the turn, usually when I'm playing poorly and just need something to lighten up my mood. But even that is a rare case. I usually drink nothing but water on the course, have a great time, and save the beer for the 19th hole.


Hopefully by then I've won the round and my buddy gets to pay....

We'll drink if its in the afternoon and I have the day off. But i dont like drinking early in the morning or before work. either way we have fun

Maybe a beer somewhere on the course if it's hot out and maybe one afterwards. Never get trashed (you gotta drive home, remember?).

I usually do have 1-2 beers while playing. Yeah, I know even a couple beers can be bad for your game - But I am also aiming to enjoy myself out there and relax a little.

I always have a good time on the course by the end of the day, of course no booze for me on teh course yet (under age) but in two years, though i don't think i'd bother with it while playing it would through me off my usual game i believe.

I like to have a "good time" off the course as much as the next guy, down a couple brews on the 19th. I have so much fun playing golf that there is no need for me to spend 5 bucks a beer while I am playing. I am into my game and like drinking Gatorade or water. I have friends who cant play unless they are drinking and that is fine with me, I am just glad I don't feel that need to drink and play.

The only time I've had a drink during a round this year was during a rain delay. I don't like to drink during a round because I'm pretty serious about my game as are two of the guys I usually play with and I don't know what effect it will have. I usually don't have a good time if the people I'm playing with aren't serious about their game.

I don't drink during a round, unless its a very social event. My firm had a golf tourney this summer, free beer and booze on the course. I had a couple of beers and a JD, played a little worse than normal, but we still won.

Other than than, like a few posters before me, I have enough fun playing golf as it is, so I don't feel tempted at all to get a beer on the course.

Golf is hard enough as it is, why get drunk and lose my motor skills?

On the course I'm a water man. After the game and if I'm not driving I like a Gin & Tonic. My good golfing friend (he lives in England) got me into G&Ts.; No drinking and driving. I like my driving too much. It's how I get to the golf course.

Aha! Good point Goofy golf is hard enough as it is.

Seems like I am like most of you all. I'll occasionally have a few but I prefer to stick to working on my game as best as possible.

Also if anyone thought I meant in the title that the only way I have a good time is if I drink, I wasn't implying that at all. I just wasn't sure of how to state it, as in I didn't want to make a thread titled "Do you and your bros get HAMMERED on the course?!?" or something ridiculous along those lines.

No one thought anything about my MMJ patient friend either? I mean this guy really cannot play golf to save his life with out it. But once he has it he consistently an 80's guy. Weird.

If you go with some guys and one decides to crack a beer on the turn (of age of course) you wouldn't play with him? I'm just curious btw.

Last fall I played a round with two of my friends and we were drinking the night before, so my buddy decided it'd be a good idea to bring along the jug of Jim Beam and some bottles of Coke from the night before. Well, after two or three holes, we were just having a terrible time. I understand some people like the challenge, but it was late September here in Wisconsin and we picked the worse day to golf. It was unusually cold, probably mid 40's with constant wind. The course we went to is usually windy to begin with, but it was BAD that day. We made some mixers on the 3rd hole and went from there. Then around the 10th hole, we just started taking pulls from the jug. We were the only ones on the course, so it's not like we were really effecting anyone else and we weren't falling over, puking drunk. Conditions were just terrible and no one was really playing well at all, so we just decided to let loose, play our best and have fun.

That was the only time I've ever drank on the course. Otherwise I'm always serious about my round, but still have fun and don't beat myself too much over poor shots. Most of the time, especially in the summer I need tons of water to survive a round anyway, so I'm usually a water guy.

I like to have 1 or 2 beers over the course of an 18 hole round. Always with some food at the turn. I find that 3 beers over the course of 4.5 hours does not make me intoxicated.

Oddly, I have a pal I play with who is an absolute beginner. He has a hard time loosening up and swinging naturally. The other day, after a beer on an empty stomach, his game actually improved after he stopped being so uptight about it.

I've only had beer on the course a handful of times.

One time, though.... my friends and I did get intoxicated on the course. We still repaired ball marks, threw empties into the garbage, and adhered to proper golf rules/etiquette.

The only thing that suffered were our scores.

It was fun....but not something I plan on doing again.
