For some reason... maybe because its the last and final major... I just dont get excited for this one, at all.

The Masters = the green jacket, Augusta, Bobby Jones

US Open = USGA sticking it to players, over par winners, long rough

The Open = the birthplace of the game, oldest championship, cold & rainy links golf

The PGA = ? no clue

what are people's feelings on this one?

I'm not critizing the PGA I'm just saying that when I think of the championship nothing unique really comes to mind

Uhh, a few years ago it was held about 40 minutes away from me at Whistling Straits, I guess that's it for me. I'll still watch it obviously because its a major, but I still think it plays little brother to all the other majors.

Yerright. But the USPGA championship? Are you excited?

I am a bit, because it's a meeting place of today's leaders in golf (except for the club pro qualifying route) and there is that excitement at the top end. But, to be honest, I find the TPC more exciting. Even tho it's artificial - everything is around the 17th. But the field is more elite.

I'll still watch it, but it wont be the same without Tiger.

You people are crazy! If you can't get excited about a major championship, what can you get excited for? I'm pumped up as I am for all majors, but it sounds like I might be the only one.

For those saying the PGA Championship doesn't excite them, have you by any chance watched any in the past decade? It's hard to pick one out that wasn't exciting. The Shaun Micheel victory wasn't necessarily great for the game, but all others have been pretty awesome.

Some of my best golf memories have come from the PGA Championship.

Oh yeah, as for the topic, I'm excited for next week's PGA Championship.

Are You Excited for the PGA?

I will answer that question with one word....

I get excited for any major, but the PGA would be off the charts if they would go match play like they used to. This year, since it's so wide open, should be quite the tourney.

I'm pumped as hell for the PGA, there have been some amazing championships held in recent memory, Tiger vs. Bob May, Sergio chasing his ball from behind that tree, Rich Beem winning with Tiger hot on his tail....the list goes on and on for the PGA Championship. While it might not have the history of The Open Championship, the tradition of The Masters, the brutality of the U.S. Open the PGA Championship is still considered a major championship and in my mind it deserves the attention of the world's best players.

Yep, I'm pumped and wish it were this week. BTW, I just rec'd confirmation of my volunteer status for the 2009 PGA @ Hazeltine!!!

I'm still pumped because it's a major.

But, and maybe it's because the TPC at Sawgrass is my 2nd favorite course with my favorite hole (17), I've always said the Players Championship should be the 4th Major tournament, with the PGA being that nonofficial "5th" major.

I was thinking long and long about this.

I think what makes the PGA Championship so significant is the fact that it's the last major of the year. "Glory's last shot". If you fail to win it then you have to wait until the following April for the next chance (and that's IF YOU GET into the MASTERS).

Also, in the pre-Fed-Ex Cup era, to me, the PGA Championship signified the end of the golf season. Theres no other important tournament after that. (except the Ryder Cup, but that's team golf.)

So yeah, I'm pumped.

This is a (purely subjective) ranking of the most exciting/entertaining majors every year since 1999, with the winner in parentheses:

1999: 1. US Open (Stewart); 2. PGA (Tiger); 3. Open (Lawrie); 4. Masters (Olazabal)
2000: 1. PGA (Tiger); 2. US Open (Tiger); 3. Open (Tiger); 4. Masters (Singh)
2001: 1. PGA (Toms); 2. US Open (Goosen); 3. Masters (Tiger); 4. Open (Duval)
2002: 1. US Open (Woods); 2. PGA (Beem); 3. Open (Els); 4. Masters (Tiger)
2003: 1. Masters (Weir); 2. Open (Curtis); 3. PGA (Micheel); 4. US Open (Furyk)
2004: 1. Masters (Mickelson); 2. PGA (Singh); 3. US Open (Goosen); 4. Open (Hamilton)
2005: 1. Masters (Tiger); 2. PGA (Mickelson); 3. Open (Tiger); 4. US Open (Campbell)
2006: 1. US Open (Ogilvy); 2. Open (Tiger); 3. Mickelson (Masters); 4. PGA (Woods)
2007: 1. Open (Harrington); 2. US Open (Cabrera); 3. PGA (Tiger); 4. Masters (Johnson)

So, if we award 3 points for a 1st-place finish, 2 for 2nd, 1 for 3rd, and 0 for 4th, we get...

1. US Open: 16
1. PGA: 16
3. Masters: 11
3. Open: 11

The PGA is tied with the US Open for 1st of my excitement/entertainment scale. It may be 4th out of 4, but it rarely fails to deliver the goods.

Get pumped for the PGA Championship, folks!

Sure, it's the last major of the year. Vijay is playing pretty well, and has the career credentials to say he's the favorite now.

Without Woods, there is more of a wide-open feel. The flip side of course is that the best player won't be there.

I do like the PGA's choice of courses, and their set-ups. Tough, but not absurd. Augusta is getting goofy with the length, and while the USGA is regaining its sanity regarding set-ups, it had some years when the US Open was pretty much a joke.

Cheers to the PGA for keeping their heads. That's one more reason to get excited about it. You'll see some good golf, with guys getting penalized for hiting it off-target, but still have a chance at a recovery with a top-notch shot.

Yes, I'm up for the PGA but I have my own 'major' to play in this weekend so I'll set the DVR and watch a bit here and there. I'll likely wind up finishing the coverage next week.

i like all majors no matter who is playing in them. no way should the players be a major with the 71 hole being a gimmick hole.

    • There are so many videos comparing and contrasting everything that I am both overwhelmed and more than a bit skeptical. Your comments above are much more valuable than hours of you-tube videos. Generally speaking, I’d much prefer to read something that someone took the time and trouble to write (such as your comments) than a bunch of videos, or worse, meaningless reviews that seem like they are all cut and paste selections of the same script. I’m more of a RTFM type than a watcher of “instructional” videos. By way of explanation, I don’t watch TV either.  So thanks - I’ll take that under advisement. I have an H3 that I bought for $10 that I’ve been carrying around but not sure why. Seems like a cool club, but I just don’t really know what to do with it.
    • I was using the window as a mirror. Just trying to be a more aware of the feels for a better backswing. Trying to not be as closed from A1 to A2. Then not letting the club head flip inside. What I was feeling was a pressure my right wrist, and like the palm of my right hand was pushing upward against the grip of the club. My right hand was the underside of the swing path.  Going to play around with this a bit more. It looked pretty decent with mirror/window work. Just wanted to jot it down.
