what is some Putting tips that has improved your putting? any tip would help right now.....

I 3 putted today 11 times........missed 5 (2-4ft putts) for Par and 1 for Birdie....(this has been going on the last several times out) my putting is horrible right now, and honestly I'm so ashamed of it and my confidence is at a all time low....

I know I give between 8-10 strokes a round away once I'm on the dance floor.

any tips, suggestions...pre routine..anything.

you need improvement of your fundamentals.

as far as my grip I did change it this season to that of my regular grip (interlock)..and at the beginning it seemed to be working.... I've also changed my stance a bit as well (recently been doing anything that seems to work) been widing my stance (like Kenny Perry) been bringing my feet closer..anything... as far as contact I've been making solid contact but for whatever reason it isn't falling in the cup...alot of it is reading the greens as well....example: it seems to be going this way when really it was going that way type stuff.

Take an extra minute to walk around the cup to read the green from both sides, that can change what your seeing. And use the big muscles to swing the putter a nice pendulum stroke, don't use your arms. and there ya go, you should be only putting about 26 times a round now... ya right

Two classic drills I always go back to when I'm putting poorly:

Ball about five foot from the hole, set up the putter to the ball and put a tee either side of the putter, creating a gate way for the putter to go through in the stroke.

If you are able to do this, turn your putter so you are hitting the ball with the toe end of your putter, I try to hit long and short putts with this method when practising.

These two drills really improve your strike and focus, two key elements to effective and consistent putting.

I find the clock drill really useful for building confidence in those short putts (yes confidence is very important in putting).
Set lots of balls around the hole in a circle (I usually just use three or four and place them again after holing out). Take into account all different breaks, uphill, downhill crosshill etc... I start at about 3 feet from the hole and work back. If you miss one go back to the start.

One thing that really helped my putting was learning to focus on the ball, not the hole. Once I get my alignment set, I take one last look down the line and try to fix the image of the ball going to the hole in my mind's eye. Then, I look down at the ball and make sure my head remains perfectly still. I want to see the putter strike the ball and keep watching the spot where the ball was until after the ball leaves my peripheral vision. This helps me keep the putter on plane and prevents my body from moving during the stroke. Of course, putting is a very individual thing. There are about as many different putting techniques as there golfers so your mileage may vary.

what is some Putting tips that has improved your putting? any tip would help right now.....

1. Go buy Stan Utley's book 'The Art of Putting'.

2. Get yourself a heel-shafted (toe weighted) putter (or pull yours out of the closet). 3. Read the book. 4. Go to the practice green and follow his instructions (take the book with you). 5. Start making more putts....Guaranteed. If you already use the arc-style of putting, fine...but do you use Utley's stroke mechanics? They are simple and repeatable. After that, it's all about the speed.

I read the green from both sides sometimes if I can't read the line right.
2nd) I make sure where I am lined up because sometimes you think your aiming left/right when your really not. Second I make sure for those 2-4 foot putts I don't leave the ball shorrt. I am for the back of the cup so the ball doesn't break off the cup edge.
3rd) Keep a nice swing, never use the wrists putts

Putt with you shoulder and not your hands and concentrate more on distance control.

    • Well, I have a 2 hybrid, 4 hybrid and then play 6 iron onwards.  My best clubs are probably the 4 hybrid and the PW.  What I find is that loft is your friend in general which is why my 4 hybrid is so much better than my 2 hybrid.  Definitely disproportionately more so than the 5 or so degrees of difference in loft.  If you have hybrids, play them.  And consider loft as your friend.  Invariably you will get up to a loft where anything less will not get you more distance because of your club head speed.  Essentially the faster you swing the less lofted a club you can hit effectively.  For me it is probably a 4 hybrid and maybe a 7 iron though I could improve both with practice
    • Off to my home state of Massachusetts this morning. 9 this afternoon,  18 tomorrow,  and 18 on Saturday. Hoping for some good scores but will be just happy playing with good friends.
