Sorry if this is the wrong area to post, but I wanted to get your feedback on buying and selling stuff here.

I have been a member of another site for quite a long time. I have personally bought and sold hundreds of items with absolutely no problems, but every now and then some bad-apple comes along and rips people off by A . not sending out what they sell or B . Not paying for what they buy.

I understand (being a newbie) here that I will probably have to either ship/pay first before I gain your trust. That which I have no problems with.

My question is....

Is there a feedback section here where you can post deals that you have had or do you go by "Rep" points alone?

I personally Agree there should be a little addition to the marketplace so you know who you can trust. There is one standard you need which is 20 posts elsewhere to access the marketplace which is good but It needs a little more.

Some guy could just get 20 posts, post a fake item and rip people off. I know www.golfwrx.com has a feedback system like ebay does, which actually really works. I think there should be the same kind of thing on here.

Agreed. 20 posts does not cut it.

Even if we dont have a "feedback system" we could have a whole other Marketplace Thread where people post good and bad experiences from certain buyers and sellers. Almost like a feedback system, but a thread dedicated to it.

Has anyone been ripped off here yet? No.

Is buying and selling at all a major point of this forum? No.

Will I be implementing anything of the sort mentioned, free, when sites like eBay or our partner site GolfWRX already offer it? No.

I'd just as soon close the Marketplace as anything else. Why? Because it boils down to something really simple: If you're going to rip someone off, you're not going to wait 30 days and make 25 posts to do it.

I also happen to think that a PM would have been a better to request something like this.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
