What is the softest feeling ball that you have played? I currently play a Titleist ProV1, but I was wondering if there is anything else out there that is just as soft for less money, or actually softer than the ProV1. I am not worried about distance or spin, just that nice soft feel. Only current balls, no old Balatas, hehe.

I don't have a lot of experience with high end balls. The softest I have ever played is a balata, but of the ones currently on the market, the softest I have played is the ProV1.

Arghh....you took away my first response...would have been a Titleist Tour Balata 90 compression. Those balls were simply magical. The backspin and greenside performance on those things was ureal....off course they played a bit shorter for most average players than the distance balls of the day.

Softest now.....hmmm. Amoung the balls I've tried lately, the ProV1 followed by the B330 seems to be. I haven't really tried that many since I started playing again after laying off for a few years.

I've never purchased a ProV1...just played a couple that I've found. I suspect the B330S would be really soft....but it'd be a while before I spend that much on a ball. The Bridgestone E5+ is my ball for right now....great in every category that I care about.

I believe one of the Nike balls is softer and spins more, but I am not sure which one .. (I guess either Nike One or Platinum). I have never played with them though, I just remember seeing a comparison chart somewhere ..

The B330-S really isn't that soft. There is an audible 'click' off the putter. Soft feel and HUGE distance HAS to be the TAYLORMADE TP RED. They are great.

Nike One Platinum is the softest ball on the market according to one of the magazine's research (not sure if it's golf mag or golf dig). "It is made for people like Tiger who can afford to lose distance for the extra spin" - Nike Rep

SiamGolfer, I'd bet that you're thinking of the chart in GOLF Magazine, Feb 2008. I'm currently looking for a copy simply for the article on this very topic -> http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15855

On the topic of "softest", I'd have to put my vote in for the Titleist Pro V1 as wel. I was a huge fan of the Titleist Tour Balata back in the day and the Pro V1 is as close as I've found in a current ball. The Pro V1 isn't quite as soft as the old Balata but it's a lot more durable and a bit longer to boot. Over all I think that it's a better ball and I don't miss my old balatas that much. If anything, I'm looking for a lower spin ("feel") ball these days and have been experimenting with the Pro V1x and Callaway Tour Xi.

Thanks all, I guess that I will stick with my ProV1's for now. Maybe when I run out I will look into experimenting with a new ball. It may take some time as I have not lost a ball in a few rounds.

I have the Feb. golf ball magazine and #1 on the softest cover is the Nike One Platinum. But #2, and hands down the softest ball I've ever played, is the Callaway Hot Bite. No durability at all, but the distances for me were identical to the NXT Tour off the irons and wedges, Maybe 5 or 10 yards (at the most) less off the driver than the NXT Tour. If you want soft, try a sleeve for $7.50.
