What ball would you recommend to very young players????

My young son is picking up the game, much to my delight.

He really seems to be enjoying it. We try to keep it light and relaxing....not too much at once....30 mins at the range on those sessions......no more than 6-9 holes at once.

His skills are coming along.

I just wondered if there is an ultra-low compression ball for youngsters....something to help them with their slower swing speeds. He's playing the US Kids Clubs which flex really well for him.

Maybe try a ladies ball. But other than that I don't know

I would say try a ladies' ball as well.

Other options are the Wilson Zip (zero compression ball), Wilson Staff 50 (50 compression ball), TM Noodle, or Callaway HX Pearl.

There are also specific softer balls for juniors to help them gain confidence, like the Nike E-Z Distance Ball or US Kids Golf balls .

Precept MC Lady ball is a low compression ball for about $8 a box.

We played nine holes one day, I hit from my normal tees and we'd stop 75 yards or so from the each green and tee up a ball for him to play out. One a par 4 dogleg left, I dribbled my ball off the tee, landing on a strong upslope on the left side. I launched a career 4 iron off the hill that floated about six miles to the blind green. Neither of us could believe the shot. He asked why I simply didn't cut the corner from the tee box. Anyway...we walked up to his spot and teed up his ball and he drove it. We walked up to the green and didn't see my ball immediately but then found it long in the sand bunker. In the process of looking around for mine, he comes over smiling and shows me a ProV1 that he found. I told him those were the best balls in the world and that his grandfather played them exclusively for the past few years. He said, "Well Dad, ...I think I'll be playing them, too.". He's been playing that ball ever since. Kid doesn't loose them on the course. That same exact ball is his "go-to" ball every time.

I remember when I was 11-12 playing Titleist Tour Balatas, but if you asked me then if I could tell the difference between them and lets say a Spalding Dot, I couldn't do it!

Another good ball for a kid is the Dunlop LoCo balls (great price, large quantity).

I'll certainly not be buying him ProV1s...hells no. The Nike E-Z distance sounds great. He'll freak over the swoosh mark....looks like Tiger's and such.

I'll send another vote for the Nike EZ Distance. I started my son out on them even though all he wanted to play were my ProV's and Bridgestones. They work great for a kids slower swing speed.

I agree with a lot of the guys saying a ladies' ball. I know of a few "older" gentlemen locally that use the Precept Ladies' MC I think it is. A little softer, great action on the greens. They have slower swings and just don't feel like they can hit a ProV 1 or other top ball, hard enough to get enough out of it.

There's no way I could justify spending the money on a Prov 1`for myself, let alone a young person. Let him earn it. If he wants to use Titleist balls, keep it in the fairway, ALL the time!!
