So it's very late at night (or very early in the morning, if you see it that way), and being the insomniac that I am, I find myself pacing through my apartment, looking for a way to occupy my mind.

I'm currently sort of re-organizing my living situation, and sitting in my living room is a full-length mirror that belonged to my ex-roommate which he didn't take with him when he moved out. Also in my living room is my old sand wedge. Putting one and two together, I naturally pick up the club, position myself in front of the mirror, and start taking a few practice swings.

All of a sudden, everything clicks. Every muscle, every nerve in my body is working together in a way that I can feel is a perfect swing. I step back for a moment, then re-enter my stance, and repeat that swing. And again. And again. I'm in a groove. If there was such a thing as a 24-hour driving range, I'd head straight there. Oh, how I wish there was some way I could actually hit some balls, just to add the element of contact into this newly-discovered routine. But there isn't: it's the middle of the night, and even if I went out to hit a few balls, they would disappear into the darkness without evidence of their path. I'm just hoping that I can remember what I was doing in the morning.

Nice to know I am not the only insomniac here, I will get up at the same time in the morning no matter when I go to sleep. I usually find myself putting in the apartment latenight or pitching from the living room through the doorway on to my bed, all though this has resulted in a few broken/damaged items in the house. I use to take full practice swings inside with an 8 foot ceiling but stopped after all the scuffs on the walls/ceiling, broken fan globes/fan blades, and when I took a chunk out of my acoustic guitar I decided to stop .

I use a dual trace swing trainer, it's great for midnight swing practice; in fact it only works in a darkened area. I have mine in my garage and it is great to be able to take a few swings whenever you want and get some feedback about if you are doing things right or wrong. It is pretty good for working on hooks, slices, pushes, pulls, and off center contact. I use mine on driver and fws, haven't tried it on irons.
