Ive just been drawing the line directly up the shaft of the club at address. Isnt that the one to draw?

No. Almost nobody swings the club on the shaft (or "hands") plane.

The plane you want varies from instructor to instructor. I advocate an elbow plane swing, but others do not. Nobody here can tell you what plane line you want to draw, and just drawing lines won't do you any good - you need to know what you're looking for and which lines to draw.

hmm ok. yea I just want to get my club more on plane and I think I come over the top. Could you show me a plane line drawn on a pic of a swing that you recommend I try to follow?

What do you think of following this plane line? I know the first guy is a pga pro teacher, so hes qualified

also I got this video from evolvr first on plane line to try to help me figure out a plane.

so is the plane line both of these teacher are recommending to stay on for most of the backswing and particularly impact not a good idea to follow?

You do know that "they" is me (and Dave and James), right?

In a one-plane swing (which S&T; is) the hands and clubhead travel on the hands/shaft plane until the right elbow folds at which time it moves up to the elbow plane. Downswing is on elbow or a bit lower.

yea I know, it seems like a good idea and would help me out. I had some questions about it that I will message you about tho.

so I got the backswing plane line but when you say elbow plane on the downswing are you talking about the right elbow like this guys in the picture on the video, because his looks like the same plane line on his right elbow as the original shaft line. this guy teaches to get back on the original at impact, so you disagree?

here is another video on swing plane. I see the plane moves to the left elbow line at the at the top but then come back to the original line. but you like to teach to come down on the left elbow plane line? or am I miss understanding you?

Bored at work, and was checking out Hank Haneys web site, in which he sells computer software to analyze a golfers swing ( you provide the camera).

Did a quick Google, and theres really a ton of software out there, including some for the iPhone. $10 isnt bad to pay if its worth it, but the fact of me even remotely interested has my wife thinking Im obsessed with golf.

Has anyone purchased software and was it worth it?

The main one most people use is V1, and there's a free version - V1 home basic. You lose the ability to compare 2 videos side by side, and slow video down in the basic version... but it's still really good, and cracking value (free) too!

And on the Mac, give us a month and we'll have version 0.9 of Analyzr out.

I think we have several of these types of threads.

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
