Have it at boys... can hit a draw 6/10 on demand and is my preferred shape

I tend to hit a cut off the tee, pushing 260-270

Good swing man. That upright setup will tend to cause a fade, but your flatter swing looks like it can work a draw pretty well (you swing slightly inside to out from the looks of it). If you want to hit that draw more, then try to tilt your spine a little more and stand slightly farther away from the ball. I think this will help that cut turn into a right to left draw. Good luck!

Club comes back far too much to the inside. I actually think it could stand to be more upright and more to the outside.

And that's about all the analysis one can really do of a YouTube video. Good golly I hate YouTube videos. Frame by frame? Ha, good luck getting 30 frames at a time.

You certainly stay well balanced through the shot and take a nice solid pass at the ball.

I'd hang on to my wallet carefully if we were playing!!! I imagine you put the ball in great spots off the tee.

Very solid contact.

First: Setup is "okay." Arms might be a little more hanging and a little less bent.
Second: Hips not turned through as much as they could be. Right heel way off the ground. Spine angle is somewhat consistent though, but also look at the arms - not fully extended again.
Third: Club way, way too far behind ya...
Fourth: ... which leads to this.

You should submit your video to Swing Check.

Great tempo and rhythem to this golf swing. Which, IMO, is one of the most underrated things. When my temp and rhythem are good, I can go low (for me lol)...

It's very John Daly-ish. Don't take that the wrong way. Just the fact you go past parallel on your backswing and the way you finish just reminds me of him. I don't mean it as an insult, lol.

Nice swing, I'd kill for a swing like that. You can tell it's a UST Proforce V2 on a youtube quality video, lol.

The swing has some fairly severe flaws.

It's very John Daly-ish. Don't take that the wrong way. Just the fact you go past parallel on your backswing and the way you finish just reminds me of him. I don't mean it as an insult, lol.

He doesn't go far past parallel - he's across the line, pointing WAY too far right of target.

Nice swing, I'd kill for a swing like that.

Is anyone actually watching the video?

I'm not trying to dump on DD here, and his flaws are probably fairly easy to fix, but there are flaws and they're pretty obvious. DDB - you should still take some more videos and submit them to Swing Check.

I agree with iacas here. You're taking the club way too inside on the backswing and you're coming in from the outside during the downswing (vertical). I also think you pulled that shot, didn't you? A little bit armsy there too. Moreover, I believe you're standing close to the ball. Try to move back a bit and your arms are going to be fully extended just after impact.

On the other side, nice tempo and rhythm.

Iacas, his swing has great tempo to it and looks very nice from us non-golf swing experts. Obviously, generally every ameatuer has some type of flaw in their golf swing, but as him being a 6 handicap I think a lot of people would kill for his game.

i think for an amateur player, his swing is fantastic.

as for a 6.5 handicap's swing, i don't know but then again, that's the interesting thing about golf and sports in general. Someone could shoot even par and have an ugly swing (not that this is ugly, it's just not "perfect" per say) while another guy could shoot 15 over with a gorgeous swing and follow through just right.

No denying that, and again I don't mean any disrespect to you or DD about it. I just want to make sure the obvious flaws are made obvious to everyone, and I doubt DD was posting here so everyone would go "oooh, nice." He was probably posting so that we could point out the things he could improve on.

It's good of you to point out the good, too, so he makes sure he holds onto that. I tend not to comment on tempo personally because it's different for everyone, but I'm glad you have.

Do you contradict yourself a bit here? I must not quite get what you're saying. I'm not trying to judge someone based on their handicap - I think everyone that posts a swing video wants to improve, so the handicap is somewhat irrelevant to that.

I don't think DD posted here so everyone could go "ooh, nice." I also don't personally care for how "pretty" something is, because that's subjective. What's generally not subjective is what "good" positions are in the golf swing. Sure you can debate the nuances, and there's always a Jim Furyk or someone who is different, but in general an effective golf swing is an effective golf swing. Pretty is a different beast entirely. To that, my swing may very well be uglier than his (perhaps because my tempo isn't what you like to see), and I have a feeling DD would like to improve. I think that if he fixes the way, way inside takeaway and the way, way over the line (horizontally, not vertically) that causes, he'll become a better player. That single change may shave his index two strokes, because he may eliminate the one or two bad drives he probably typically has per round due to the flaw. I hope not to have come across as just being argumentative here - my goal here has been to not only help DD out, but like we do with our full Swing Checks, to point out the flaws so that others can learn, too, if they take their own videos or whatever. In general, that sort of takeaway and position at the top is "less good" than what DD or anyone else should strive for. Anyway, I think I'm talking myself into a little confusion here. I think with a little work DD could shave two strokes. His swing is fairly good, but he has a noticeable flaw that can be fixed by fairly small tweak. He should work on getting the club to parallel his foot line at both horizontals (partway back on his backswing, and at the top of his backswing).

I just wanted to thank everyone on here for their thoughtful comments... I am on here to learn about my swing and its flaws. I've only been playing for 5 years and have never had a lesson or seen a professional. With all of that in mind I know very little about the swing and rely purely on feel.

I will be heading to the range tomorrow night for another video session. I drove the ball VERY well today after reading some of the posts here. I want brutal honesty!

A future video will be posted in 48 HRS

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
