I just won a Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 1.5 in a scramble tournament on the"closest to pin" hole. It's the 35" with the standard 10gram weights. It's brand new - grip is still in plastic. The putter is beautiful and I'd really like to play with it, but I can't putt with a 35" putter. If it were the 33" with the 20gram weights it'd be PERFECT.

Should I sell it (on ebay)? Should I send it in to be cut down to 33" and get the 20gram weights?

Any advice?

Get it cut down and get the weights!

It's up to you though..you could sell that for a good amount if you're in need of the cash. If it was me, I'd keep it though.

Why can't the give-aways ever be what we need. Why can't beggars be choosers? Thanks for the quick replies. I think I will send it in, but then that opens the door for all the little custom tweaks available from the custom shop. custom paint, stamps, initials, names on weights, grips and headcovers. This 'Free' putter is going to cost me!!!

Go play golf.

Jay-Bird,

Did you win it at Alvamar Hills ? Also, how about checking there to see if they have one that fits you and you can make a trade or maybe check some of the courses in the Kansas City area.

I would definitely sell it or trade it for what you want exactly. At most you'll be looking at 50 bucks more or even maybe an even trade for something that fits your game and specs. Either way you are one lucky guy.

I just won a Scotty Cameron

If it is brand new, you should be able to take it to a golf store and exchange it for another. Call around and ask. Tell them it has never been used and still in plastic. I would try this before cutting it down.

GOOD LUCK!

Keep it and send it back to Scotty to get it tricked out exactly like you want it.

Sure it'll cost you a couple of bucks but it will be well worth it. Very nice putter!!!!! Now go out and make it unique to you.

Don't cut the brand new Scotty Cameron putter!

Find out if your local golf store will exchange for the model of equal value with the putter you want, 9 out of 10 golf stores will, especially since you have not used the putter yet, keep the plastic on the grip and do not use it.

The other option is they might give you store credit toward other golf equipment, find out what value is so that you know what is fair credit.

if its brand new and has never been hit go to a local shop, tell them you got it as a gift and dont have a receipt and just ask for a different model "my aunt got it for me and she doesnt know anything about golf"

if you've used it, cut it down and get some weight on it... you may not need to the actually scotty weights, before you grip add some tungsten powder inside and plug with a shaft cork... it will save you some money

Send it to Scotty! It will cost you though. Mine was $299 from Edwin Watts, but after shipping and Custom Shop fees it has totaled to about a $715 putter. I had the works done to it though. I had it cut down, weight added, new head cover, new premium grip, new paintfill, and certification. I am still waiting for it to get back, but I really don't think that I will be disappointed.

How long is it supposed to take? Right now on scotty's site there is a note on the Custom Shop Options page that says the current turn around time for custom shop work is 15 days. I looked at all of the options. I'd like to get the heel and toe bump weights personalized, get a stamp on the toe, maybe dancing ititials on the heel, get the translucent blue paintfill, turbo blue grip and headcover, cut it to 33", add the 20g weights. That all comes to $229 before shipping. You can check the status of your putter here: www.scottycameron.com/customization/default.asp

WHAT A RIPOFF!!!!!!! I can't stand the scotty "custom shop"

The headcover is honestly the only thing worth anything... he'll reshaft using a standard steel shaft and a new shaft band (who cares about a shaftband) Paintfills maybe the easiest thing ever invented! soooo easy to do at home If you want customization that would be adding weight to an exact gram amount, being to able to change the hosel design and weld, refinishing with a unique finish and adding any handstamp you want, adding a sound slot etc etc people pay big dollars for a new painfill and their initials, never mind a handstamp

For you. For others, it's worth it, and others couldn't fathom paying for a headcover.

    • The answer to this question is a very small change in impact can cause a BIG impact in direction. This is with the driver, but its similar with the irons... How much does an open or closed clubface affect your drives? | RoboTest Want to hit more fairways? The latest edition of GOLF's RoboTest highlights the importance of driver face angle. For a driver, 1 degree of clubface open or shut causes 10 yards of left or right. When you think the rate of closure for a golf club, how fast the club face goes from open (top of the golf swing) to square (at impact), 1 degree is a small quantity.  This means, when you are looking at video of your swing, you can see the exact same swing, but present the clubface in two widely separate positions. More so if you have swing faults. You can make the same backswing, but not get your weight forward well and hit a fat shot. You then react to this, try not to fat it so you thin it. Maybe the timing is off on the extension part of the downswing and you thin it slightly. Also, certain swing movements cause the wrists to flip at impact. The intent is still to hit the ball with the club. So your hands are going to adjust to find the ball. The more they have to adjust, the more difficult it is to repeat. Nope, it is way less mental than physical. If we could all think our way to a better swing, we would all be PGA tour players.  #GOLF IS HARD!  Beginners have repeatable swings, just bad repeatable swing. We all just need to make repeatable better swings.  The golf swing is a battle of making movements that allow the club to do good things. You results are from a bad swing that has a wider range of outcomes. Your outcomes are probably the following. Way more thins, fats, skulls than most. You hardly see PGA Tour players fat, skull or thin a shot.  The first principle of golf is FEEL IS NOT REAL. Meaning, we can feel things in the golf swing, yet it produces results or shows on video as something else.  You just set up to the ball. The club has a different length, so you need to adjust. For most your arms extend more out as you have a longer club. You also bend over less for longer clubs. It is just something you get used to. If you make a fist and stick your thumb out. You want that width from the butt end of the club and your belt buckle. Now, if you taller or shorter than most, then you may need to adjust the length of your clubs.
    • At address? I think so. Downswing and through? IDK. I doubt if a whole lot of golfers, if any at all, deliberately think "I have a 9-iron so I need to bend half an inch more through the downswing compared to my 8 iron".
