Money is not a huge factor but we don't wan to spend extra money if we don't need to. Would an 8 piece set be good enough for a twice a month golfer? Pros and cons for both please.

An 8 piece set would be enough, but if she really gets into it, she may want to upgrade meaning you kind of wasted some money. I bought the better half an Accuity complete set. Then we got her a putter that she really wanted and then she upgraded her driver to the ladies Cobra. It was over the course of 2 years, but she is hooked now.

My mom has the adams 13 piece set and loves it. It is definately a great choice for a beginner, great value. As to the set size, id probably go with the bigger one if the extra bens isnt a big deal. Just because if she decides she really likes the game then she wont want to get more clubs. On the other hand if she doesnt need it/ like the game then youve only dropped an extra 200 instead of the possible 500 or more it would cost if she wants something else. The 8 piece set might leave some gaps between irons but that depends on her swing speed. My mom has like a half wedge swing and her 5 and 8 irons like go the same distance. The irons are great and she can keep them for years unless she wants a players set at some point.

    • Rule 1.2b refers you to a section in the Committee Procedures (Section 5I) that helps explain what a Code of Conduct may (and may not) do.  Defining acceptable behavior (including smoking) and applying Stroke of DQ penalties are certainly within the Committee's authority. That Code of Conduct certainly should be available, either in written form or in a webpage accessible to all.  It may not show up on the "standard local rules" for an organization, the "hard card", as it sounds like its a policy of this particular golf course. Assuming that's the case it should show up on the Notice to Players for this particular event.  If you can't find it, ask someone, send an email, try to find out.   In summary, yes the Committee can DQ (or withdraw) a Player for smoking, even before or between rounds.  But its up to you to go from there, communication is the key here.

    • Hmm... I not sure I completely understand. If the course has a no smoking policy, then he shouldn't smoke at the course.  I'm assuming since you are aware of the policy, it must be written down somewhere.  As far as getting disqualified from the tournament, I would think that would be up to the committee. But it feels like it is within their power to disqualify, so why take the chance?
