What do you guys think about the idea of replacing my 15* 3-wood with a Mizuno MP Fli-Hi 18*?
I hit my 21* pretty well, but hit my 3-wood poorly, so to me it seems like a no-brainer, but Id like some input.

I replaced my 3W with a 16* HiBore hybrid. Just can't hit a fwy wood off the deck for some reason.

Of course, I ordered that hybrid a week ago, and Golfsmith still doesn't have it to my door yet. AGH

An 18* is generally a replacement for a 5 wood - but if you can hit - do it.

I pulled my 3 wood out and only use the hybrids that came with my Adams set(s). Distance is about the same and control has been better.

Of course I was lusting after the FT-i 3 wood the other day so what do I know!

As always, YMMV....

I am actually about to replace my 3 wood with a 1 iron hybrid. I will keep my five wood, but the 3 I am just not using that much.

Sounds like a plan then. I realize Im going to lose some distance, but I think a straighter but shorter shot is better than a longer shot that is a huge slice every time.

Am I missing something or dont you have room for both in your bag?

My 17* hybrid is one of my most trusted clubs, I tried the 15* route and it ended up being the same as my 3 wood - could kill it off the tee, but was less than 50% reliable off of the fairway.

I hit my 3-wood poorly, huge slice every time. I hit my 21* MP Fli Hi pretty well, so I was thinking maybe an 18* would be a good replacement for my 3-wood.

Mizuno doesnt make a 1H in the MP Fli Hi line and the CLK Fli Hi is more like a wood, so I dont think that CLK would be a good idea.

I know you are a mixed bag with Titleist and Mizuno, but have you thought about trying a few others? I really like the Mizuno Hybrids, but when I hit the Adams A3, it was like the 2nd coming. Ping G10 makes a good one too, as does Nickent and many more. I love the 1 and 2 iron hybrids from Adams.

I am still playing around with the concept of not going back to the 3 wood.

I just ordered a 14 degree hybrid. I hope I can hit that thing. I should know this
weekend.

Very true statement.

I replaced the spot normally held in my bag by a 5 Wood with the hybrid in my signature line. I'd say it has been very sucessful. I have a club that is much more versatile for me than any 5 wood ever was.....to me, at least. I'm able to hit shots from fairway bunkers and rough that I never could with a 5 Wood. I plan on replacing my 3 wood with a 17 4 wood, though. I think this will offer serious versatility and allow a better choice for tee shots and long shots from great lies than I can achieve with my current 3 wood. Hybrids are nice to have and allow a straightforward swing that is easier for most to pull off. Good luck.

I think you're on to a good idea. Many people, including some posters above as well as me, have substituted a 16 degree hybrid for a 15 degree 3 wood, rather than the 18 degree ( I replaced my 5 wood with the 18 degree hybrid). By doing this you may not lose as much distance as you think: a ball well struck with a 16 degree hybrid will probably go farther than one from a poorly struck 3 wood.

Also, you may wish to try the Cobra DWS or Cobra Pro hybrids because they are just so easy to hit. Good luck with your choices.

I just replaced my 15* 3 wood with a 16* Adams hybrid. Getting about 10 yards less distance with the hybrid but hit it MUCH straighter and more consistantly.

You can talk to a slice, but a hook doesn't listen.

Don't you think the trade off of a little distance is worth the accuracy you get in return?

MP Fli-Hi (not the CLK right?) is a good choice i have the 21*. Have you actually tested it already? How does it work for you so far. Before you give up on the 3 wood why not try the G10 15.5* 3W or the 17* 4W? They are easy to hit even for a high handicapper like me. If you're not really into it then try the G10 hybrids.

I went the opposite route, after my driver, i had a 16* hybrid and a 19* hybrid, later added a 21* one. Then when I started hitting my 3W bye bye 16* hybrid, then 5W bye bye 19*, i kept the 3i because i just absolutely love it!

go with a 16 hybrid if you hit it better than a 3 wood. the 18's a 5 wood. my 16 degree hybrid is my 215 - 230 club. my 3 wood only goes about 10 - 15 yards further than that. but the hybrid's much easier to hit....i agree

Yeah, I played with it the first time this past Sunday. It works really well. I hit the ball about 200 yards and hit it much straighter than with a fairway wood.

Mine is the MP (the one that looks like an iron). Ive seen a few CLKs on Ebay, but Im hesitant to buy one of those because Ive never really hit my woods all that well. I always end up hitting a big slice with them. Im planning on taking some lessons eventually so that I can figure out why I slice my woods (Id bet its something simple in my grip/setup/alignment), but I definetly planning on having all 3 MP Fli Hi clubs because I hit my 21* so well. Ive also considered getting a "draw" driver, but I want to fix my swing instead of just buying a club that is a band-aid for my swing flaws.
