Anyone here still take lessons? I'm curious how to determine whether you got something out of the lesson or better yet, whether the instructor was a good instructor to begin with...

I took a series of 12, 1 hour lessons. They covered all aspects of the game. Putting, chipping, pitching, sand, short - long irons, driver, rules and etiquette.

Took them from mid april to the end of June. Covered a lot of material during that time. So now im going back for more refinement.

The series was $300 and worth every penny.

Wife and I signed up for 6, 1-hour, semi-private lessons (just the two of us, not a group of 10). The cost was $400 total and was totally worth it. First, it helped me get rid (or at least become aware) of 30 years of BAD HABITS. The bonus was, since my wife got lessons too, I didn't have to teach her (she just started this year) so therefore, we are STILL MARRIED! I don't know if we will sign up for 6 lessons next year, maybe just 3 (around March, one in May or June one in July or August). But we will take lessons every year from now on, if nothing more than to get started off correctly. And yes, the instructor was great! He's a 72 year old who can still hit 250 yard drives.

I just took one last week. It was my first with my local pro and I have to say it helped a bit just to have someone tell me what my swing was doing. I don't know that it has helped my swing that much b/c now I am thinking about too much I think while in my stance.

Yeah, seems very worth it, considering you did it over time rather than cram.

I've taken 3 lessons in my life, and my ballstriking has greatly improved. He never did much to my swing. Just changed up my grip slightly to a bit stronger hold, and had me wrist hinge more at the top. Everything else was the same. I'm hitting it consistently better. It's been nice.

I take 2 private lessons a week, I feel this is the reason that I have gotten my index down to 5.3 after playing maybe, 8 months.

I also took a week long group lesson (junior one at my course) for about 6 months total (between) last and this year

Like I said, it helps having 2 lessons a week with a teacher that I work well with, and also live minutes away from a course, which I spend just about every day there

I want some of what you're smoking. I have taken over 300 hours of instruction in the past four years and play 9 holes every day but still can't break 90 consistently.

All I can say is keep practicing. I guess I just have natural talent. But during the summer I spend 5-10 hours practicing, but I practice A LOT of short game, chipping and putting.
