I carry 4 wedges:

Adams A3 PW & GW that match my set - used mainly for shots from the fairway Vokey Spin Milled 54* SW & 58* - used from fairway and around greens
Is a lob wedge a must have. If so what are the best situations to use them?

It takes some time to learn how to use a lob wedge. However, it can really benefit your score if you can master it. I highly recommend lots of practice with the LW before putting it in play, should you decide to get one.

Insight BTY - 9.5*
Insight xtd a3 - 15*
Idea a3 Boxer Hybrid -19* & 22*
Idea a3 - 5-GW
Vokey Spin Milled - 54* & 58* Studio Select Newport 2 - 35'' Pro V1

  • 1 year later...
Currently, 3. PW, SW, LW. Super GI jacked up lofts. 45, 55 & 60.

I've got an annoying gap between the p & s. But instead of fixing through more aquisition i've been opening up the pw & playing a high fade in from 100yds. pw is around 115 usually, sw is around 90.

my first set come with a PW and AW. then I bought a Cleveland CG12 ZIP 54 degree and a $23 60 degree. Won a coupon at this par 3 stand where I got a free wedge, but shipping was $23. Decent wedge though

I use just 2, a 52 and a 56. I feel if I can't hit whatever shot I need to with a 56 then I need to practice. I have never seen the practicality in 60+ degree wedges...

Question: How do you tell what the angle degree is with your wedge? My X-22 set came with a PW and a SW though I don't know what angle they have.

I would say 3. I don't count the PW as a wedge. It's 45 freakin degrees of loft. I use it for shots between 120 and 140.

I have a 50, 56 and 60. Those are my wedges.

    • Imma throw a dart in the dark as no one can tell what is happening once every fourth iron shot per your OP. This might sound counterintuitive but if ball position is too far back in the stance folks are known to throw down clubhead steeply. Could be happening. And yes, @billchaois not wrong; clubhead tends to bottom out wherever your pressure is. So slide forward (not sway), then hit.
    • Day 300 (!): did a stack session.
    • Day 24: Missed my weekly round due to a last minute little league makeup game this morning. Managed to get in some backswing rehearsals while grilling sausages for dinner, and then putted around the office/laundry room after dinner.
    • but I don't understand how that's possible you still want your head to stay back you don't want the upper body coming forward and plus I've tried feeling that and it made my fat shots worse and I then tend to pull and sky all my shots especially with driver because I get in front of it dont need force plates to see i finish on my left side
