I am totally revamping my clubs...irons, wedges, putter ( I got a new driver last season). I think I will get a new bag too, just for fun. Anyway, I have my irons and putter and wedges picked out. The last decision I have is which bounce angle is best for my wedges. I want them as versatile as possible. I want to be able to open and close the face for maximum shot selection and I dont want to sacrifice the best angle I need for a straight up shot. I may be over analyzing this but, from what I have read....over analyzing is a hobby here. Its one of mine as well, as you can see. I have decided on Vokey Spin Milled wedges, but your input on the bounce angle will be greatly appreciated. (I am playing at about a 12 right now)

There isn't any absolutely correct answer to that question.

I carry a total of four wedges.

One of them is a straightforward 56*, 12* bounce SW.
I will probably always carry one on those because I'll bury anything with less bounce in the sand.

it really depends on the type of courses you play and your swing style... are you a digger.. a sweeper..etc.
there's not a clean cut answer for anything. i'm more of a digger in my swing..but i still use a wedge with only 10 deg of bounce..while my lob wedge is an 8....but they work for me.

if you're neither a digger or a sweeper and are pretty much cool at leaving divots and they're shallow..i'd say go with something neutral.. 12 deg? someone correct me if i'm wrong.

How much bounce depends on many variables. Sand only, rough, green side. I don't think you can play your best with just a sand wedge. Guys talk about rolling the face open and popping but once you skull one over the green into the pond, you'll be a little paranoid about doing that again.

I prefer 10*, it seems like an all around generic bounce used for many types of lies and shots, It can work well in the sand, off hard fairways, soft, you name it.

I think buying a specific bounce to suit a certain course is not smart incase you play another course. True, it's not all about the bounce, but you can wind up in trouble.

Well if you have harder conditions at your course(s) lower bounce is better(usually) and for softer sands and fairways more bounce is better because you don't dig as much. But probably(like everyone else said) the most important factor is if you take big divots or small ones, and low bounce is good for sweepers

Newbie question here, what exactly is bounce angle and what does a low bounce angle offer on a shot versus a high bounce angle? What would be different assuming two of the same shots were hit with two different wedges using different bounce angles?
