Ok, so i thought my long swing was the big problem in my swing but even with a short swing i am all over the place. I have been hitting a ton of thin blocks so i know i am somewhat stuck and swinging up on the ball too much.

After watching some tour swings on swing vision i am amazed at how still their lower body looks in first moves of the downswing. I tend to get my left hip sliding toward my target and upward as my first move in the downswing. I am really struggling with getting my weight shirf correct also. I need some major help on how to get properly loaded up on my right side. I tend to get too much weight or not enough weight on my right side. I am not sure whether i am sliding to my right in the back swing or not. I feel as though i constantly am battling either a reverse pivot or just not being able to get to my left side. My finish usaully feels like my left knee is bent, my lift hip is facing the target, and my back is still arched way behind my hips. This problem coupled with a my weight shift issues are just cold blooded murder to the golf swing.

I feel as though i cant even work on my sliding until i learn how to properly get loaded on my right side at the top of my swing. If i can get to that point then i can work on my first move down. I have a great swing plane but thats about it. I hit everying from fat shots, mostly thin shots, straight hooks, high straight fades, high block fades, and blocked hooks. Basically the sliding gets me stuck inside and swinging up on the ball. It's a real toss up where my ball is going to go. Trying to play golf right now would be scary. Anyone willing to help me with theses axe murdering moves in my swing are welcome. I am beyond fustraighted and cannot take much more!

Please!

Try pre-setting your weight back on your right side a little bit, then coil "around" your right hip or over your right knee more so. By pre-setting your weight shift, you only have to go in one direction (forward on the downswing). In fact, you can only really go one direction.

To help getting your weight onto your right side you can pre-set your weight by practicing with a ball under your left heel. If you elevate your left heel(for right handed golfers) it will help you make a better turn onto you right side and get more weight on that right foot.

Players have gotten away from it, but back in the day, many players, would slightly bend their left knee to a point where their left heel would come off the ground. This allows for a greater hip turn. These days players are more about the "X-Factor" turning their hips less in the backswing, while turning their shoulders past their hip plane.

Set up with your spine angled slightly away from the target. Then ensure that you are making a true rotation with your shoulders around your spine. If you are, your weight will automatically shift to your right side. All you need to do then is make sure you maintain the bend in your right knee to load up the torque and make a good shift and turn with your hips.

The most classic swinger today may be Vijay Singh. He does a slight heel lift now and then.

But so too does Phil Mickelson... usually right before he pull-hooks one left.

Thats true. Having all your weight on your right side can be a problem. For us right handed golfers, generally if the weight stays there, it will cause a block the right because you dont release the club. However in Phil's case he may miss left, but for him it's still a push.

In order to minimize the movement in your lower body, try hitting balls, keeping your feet together, with your 7 iron to the 100 yard marker in the practice range. This will stabilize your lower body and will help your ball striking.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
