Hey guys, I never seen this till today I was looking through some r7 equipment cause its cheap now and a great club series IMO, I love the driver anyway,
but I suck with the 3 wood off the deck so bad, I can do my 5w probably 7/10 times but , I can KILL my 3 hybrid straight and long everytime , its a 21 degree though.. So Anyone ever tried a 15 degree hybrid? I wonder what the ball flight is like distance wise. Cause half the problem of the 3 wood for me is not just the long shaft but this nike sumo head is so damn big, its the worst 3 wood I have ever played, so I went back to my little cleveland launcher which is great but it was a hand me down and is 13 degree with a stiff shaft. Totally out of my league. I think its a disadvantage off the deck to have a huge head driver like the sumo. Either that or I just cant get used to it.

So 15 Degree Hybrid, Whats the verdict? It sits on a 40.5" shaft instead of say a 43ish like the 3 wood, wonder how much distance is lost.. I get a feeling I would kill a 3 wood with a hybrid head on it and a smaller shaft. The shaft of my 21 degree hybrid is 39 , so I know im good with that club length keeping it straight with proper ball flight, and extra inch 1/2 shouldnt do too much damage to that

I found the 15* hybrid to be just about as tough to hit as a 3 wood off the deck.

My 17* i can crush but my 15* just used to irk me. My wife stole it and uses it as a driver - then again she uses it for every shot from 100 - 150 yards.

Interesting, so it is still hard to hit off the deck... Yea I have a 17 degree 5w and its not even fitted for me but I can give it a good crack.. Something dangerous about that 13-15 degree area lol

The 3 wood is tough for most people, lol. I hit a 16* hybrid for a while and LOVED it. I hit it about 250 in CARRY. However, I also LOVE to hit the driver off the deck, so my opinion is a bit biased. Before you purchase another hybrid, what kind of shaft is in your 3 wood? If it is a high/mid kick, try an inexpensive mid kick with a soft tip... try the NVS. Good shaft, reasonable price ~$65.

I have a stock regular diamana shaft in my nike 3wood, its not the shaft, its the huge head as far as that club goes that I hate. And my cleveland 3wood is much better head wise, nice small pear shape but the shaft is stiff and too long for me. If I go hybrid I can get a 40" shaft which is night and difference swing wise for me than my 43.5 nike. I might lose some distance, but really I would gain cause I cant hit the nike at all off the deck lol. So I cant really lose.

I sure love steel shaft in my 3H , so I am definatly going to try a low loft hybrid
15 or 16 degree but Im not sure If I want the graphite shaft in it or not? I have a old 3 wood that came with my golf club kit when I first started, its 15 degree steel shaft, and I can hit it better than I hit my graphite shaft 5 wood, so I am wondering if maybe I just dont like graphite shafts... Its a 42.5 inch, length of the club really makes a difference for me, once I break 42ish it really gets difficult to control the ball at all and get solid connects consistently.

What would you guys recommend for a 15-16 degree hybrid? I dont mind buying last years stuff or even 2006-2007, cause most of the time its more of the same. I am a high handicap so take that into consideration. And do you think I will see more results with 17 degree on a 40 inch shaft or a 15" degree at that length, im not sure if shaft such a short shaft length would cause issues with such a low degree head

Why not learn how to hit a 3 wood properly? Then buy a 3 wood that works. I can't hit a 3 wood for crap off the deck. However, I realize the importance of a 3 wood. Hitting it into a par 5 can give you a 1/2 wedge in; keep it in play on a tight par 4 fairway; etc. Because of this, I will continue to try to learn to hit my 3 wood. (I can crush it off the tee, but I still can't figure it out off the deck.)

Why not trim the shaft of the 3 wood? If the 43" shaft is too long, cut it to 40". It will make the shaft a bit stiffer (decreases distance but increases acccuracy). Try it with the Cleveland because you like the head shape more than the Nike. As for low lofted hybrids, check out Tour Edge Exotics. They are expensive, but the CB2 hybrids are coming down in price and can be found new or used for about $100-$150. I have heard that they are very long clubs and could almost make up the distance between a 15*h and a 15*W. I think a 17* hybrid would be closer to your 21*h than your driver. You are trying to replace the club closest to your driver, not add another hybrid to the bunch. I would go with a 15*h over a 17*h in your case. I still like 3 woods over 15* hybrids. Don't get me wrong: I love hybrids and will carry 2 this year (2 and 3). I just think a 3 wood has a purpose that a hybrid would not fill.

I have a Cleveland 2i Halo 19* and replaced my 3W. I found that I rarely needed to get my 3W past 250 in any real accurate setting. For me, getting to a par 5 in 2 isn't as important as getting to a good spot for my 3rd shot. Plus, getting out of the rough is much easier with the 19*. I can hit this around 220 (with roll) and that is fine for my game right now.

Plus, I got this brand new on eBay for $49.

I've been thinking of doing exactly the same thing, since I only hit my 3W off the tee. The club I use the most is my 2H, which is 17*, and it's always good for 200-220 yards, but I keep playing around with the idea of getting a 15* 1H and just dumping my 3W completely.

I had the same problem and got the Nicket 14* DX/DC. Initially it was as hard to hit off of the deck as my 3w, but with practice I got so I could rip it. Put the 3w back in the bag, but when it goes south on me I stick the 14* right back in until I'm hitting it well, then back to the 3w. If I really need consistant accuacy with the 3w I'll use my 14* instead; If length is more of the issue, its the 12.5* 3w. As for distances, the 14* is good for ~230 yds in the air and the 12.5* 3w when pured ~245 yds. Another trick I'll do with my 3w is grip down a little; I don't loose that much distance and the accuracy improves with a shorter shaft.

If you have any athletic ability at all its just a matter of practice. This is a little off of the thread but, IMO there isn't that much difference between ease of hitting of todays muscle back vs cavity back, its more of the OEM's marketing hype. If you really want to experience a difficult hitting club try any club built before 1980.

I need some help picking a Sandwedge, theres too many to choose from and I notice a lot on here use 588s or vokeys, thats fine and all but I dont know if those are a good choice for a high handicap. I need a forgiving club and I dont want it to roll away from me when it hits the green.

Can someone give me a suggestion what wedge set would be a good choice for a 20 handicap? I live in michigan so a lot of wet grass and soft grounds if that helps also, and since the spin of the ball is so dependent on sharp grooves , is it a bad idea to buy a used wedge thats 2 years old? Should I just get another Mac burrows for the same price and brand new? And im still stuck on a 4 or 5 wood, I was gonna go with this ping rapture, then I seen its got a huge head on it, this is exactly what I DONT want a big ass head on my woods, thats what I hate about the sumo and love about the tiny Cleveland launcher. I dont need help off the Tee I drive fine. Strictly looking for an off the deck distance club.

I went out to Golfsmith and they had a Nike 1H in stock, so I hit that for a while in their cage. Their launch monitor wouldn't work with it off the deck, but I was hitting it solid. Couldn't pull the trigger though, especially after I realized the Nike 1H was exactly as long as my Nike 3W. It's a little shorter than the Tour Edge 3W I prefer using, but I don't really know how much I'd use a 1H. I went out today and hit my hybrids like a blind man, so I put them away and began puring my 4W off the deck. Something has changed in the universe when I can't hit my hybrids but kill my woods.
