Hey folks, I recently moved to Washington state from over twenty years in Ketchikan, Alaska. Needless to say, the last six months have been the first time I've been able to play consistently ever. I am really enjoying myself (most the time) and seeing my score slowly creep down out of the cloud range.

Many thanks to "thesandtrap.com" crowd for hosting their blog and this new forum. I look foreword to interacting with many of you.

Jeff

Feel free to call me muskegman. Muskeg is a spongy moss that covers the ground where I used to live. That's where I got the name.

Welcome, Jeff. In Februray I will once again be calling Edmonds, WA home. I met my wife there three years ago when I was stationed in Tacoma and now we've decided that New Orleans isn't the place for us, so we're moving back "home." I'm in the Navy and have been to Ketchikan several times for exercises as well.

I'm new to golf, especially the playing aspect (heh), but it'd be great to have someone to shank a few balls around with.

Sign me up Aaron. I can shank with the best of them. Let me know when you show up and we'll go hack around.

What a trip! My wife's folks live in Sedro Wooley (just north of Mt. Vernon). I'd would have golfed Avalon GC (in Burlington) last Friday but I was sick over Thanksgiving weekend. It was brutal laying in bed when I could have been out on the course.

Here's a story for you... Leavenworth Golf Club in Washington State was a fun play last summer with three of my buddies. The first hole is one of those drive off a cliff and watch it fly holes. We played 9 holes our first day there because we didn't have time for more. I had the low score of the day but it wasn't pretty. I think I hit three trees and each time my ball ended up in the middle of the fairway. I'll take a win however I get it.

So you were hitting the woods well that day, eh?

A win is a win indeed!

    • A sand trap is not supposed to have 3 inches of water in it. To me that’s temporary, casual water. Just like if your ball lands in a deep rain puddle in the middle of the fairway. I would have gladly hit out of any spot in that bunker. I understand that it’s a different rule. I just think it’s a dumb rule. You are penalized because it rained.  Here’s what I think is the dumbest rule in golf, and all sports for that matter - professionals playing for millions of dollars in a tournament have to carry around a little pencil and scorecard to keep their score and sign it, when there are big scoreboards all over the course and on tv. Can you imagine the Knicks losing because they didn’t count their score correctly? Like I said, I love the game, but it’s time to move into the 21st century already.
    • Sorry to lose you, thx for letting us know
    • I have to bow out for the weekend. I was only in for Saturday as it was
    • Could course committee have an MLR option to declare this bunker GUR?
    • Sorry, I will disagree. You got a penalty because you hit it somewhere and didn't want to play it from there. Bunkers are not the general area. If you had hit it into temporary water in the general area, you'd be entitled to relief. You hit it into a hazard, a bunker. Why should you get free relief when you hit it into a bunker? If someone else hit it into a different part of the bunker, without water, they'd not get a drop for free out of the bunker. Heck, it'd cost them two strokes if they didn't have an ACC and wanted to drop it out of the bunker.
