Congrats Phil you deserved it.

I don't want to take anything away from Phil's win, but I wish the competition had been a bit stiffer. Freddie hit 17 greens in the final round by my count, right?! Tiger easily could have made up three shots just on two or three holes putting. Disappointing to see everyone fall apart like that.

Now any Grand Slam hopes rest in Karrie Webb's (no chance) and Phil's (slim chance) hands.

I was very happy for Phil but also disappointed to see everyone else fail to get-er-done.

I am proud of Phill because he did not fall back and its not his fault that no one came at him.He shot 69 on Sunday at the Masters and thats what you are supposed to do.I must admit as much as I like Phill I was sorry it was Freddie that was playing against him he has allways been a favorite of mine.

Yeah, you can say what you want about everyone faltering, but Phil didn't give them a chance anyway. It was close after nine holes, and then they fell one by one.

Retief really played as solid as anyone in my opinion, and it wouldn't have surprised me if would have finished at -6 or -7. That would have at least put the heat on.

I thought Retief, Tiger, and Freddie played as well from tee-to-green as Phil did, but they couldn't make the putts needed to win the tournament. Phil won the round with his par-savers on the front nine in my opinion. He had a few testy putts for par, and he sunk all of them. It didn't seem like a big deal then, but it turned out to be the difference in my opinion.

I'm just mad I missed the coverage on USA yesterday morning. I didn't even know anything about it because of my crazy day Saturday. :/

He gave them plenty of chances. He only won by two. Let's say he won by three. Fred Couples had a chance and three-putted. Tiger had two eagle putts inside of 10 feet that he missed, and he later three-putted. And that's not even counting the two water balls he had in the morning 9 he played.

Phil didn't run away and hide. He did what he had to do, but let's not go overboard here. Had the others not putted badly or whatever they did to fall back, Phil could have easily been caught by four or five different guys.

Congrats to Phil, but he really didn't seem to excited. Maybe it was becasue he bogeyed 18. I don't know.

What I do know it that my man Tim Clark did an awesome job, finishing solo second. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this will be his big break out year.

Probably 6 or 7 of Tigers majors were won the same way. Everybody just falling apart on Sunday and Tiger winning it with little or no pressure.

That's just a bunch of ifs though. That is the case in every major championship.

The fact of the matter is Phil had it in control from the 10th or 11th hole on. Nobody else even made a considerable move. Sure, the end result was only two strokes, but it was four just ten minutes before Phil putted out at the 18th. It was pretty dominant down the stretch, mixed in with a bunch of "ifs" from everyone else. "If" Tiger misses the putt at the 18th hole at the 2000 PGA Championship, he loses to Bob May. That's just the way golf goes. But honestly, it was never really in doubt down the stretch, at least in my mind.

Phil putted well enough and kept the ball in play. He has a very good thing going at Augusta and I expect him to be in the thick of it for years to come at the Masters.

As for the rest of the majors this year? I don't think he'll do well at Merion...it is a bit shorter and I think that brings some of the others in the field back into it (I'm looking directly at Verplank and Toms).

Mickelson has only on top 10 in the British open since I can remember and seems to struggle a bit there.

As for the PGA, I think that's where we'll see Tiger and Phil in the last group. Tiger won the last time it was at Medinah and the (good) longer hitters (#3 is 7500+ yards) should do well. I know the PGA is the least of the four majors, but it could be a great showdown.

Fairways and Greens.

    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
