The Nike Victory Red irons

I currently play Nike Slingshot OSS's with a full cavity back. I have tried blade clubs before and loved them, but I couldn't seem to play with them at the time. I have gotten better and was wondering about the Victory Red irons. I've seen the blade edition and hit it (demo) but it's not the same as hitting one on the course.

I would like to know, if anyone has these clubs- full cavity, half cavity, or blade, and how they play on the course. Do they have good feedback? Are they forgiveable?

Please tell me! I am possibly looking into buying these.

I hit the cavities recently and found them very easy to hit with an almost forged feel (the cast irons are 25% softer then the 17/4 steel used on most cast clubs). Im going to hit them again and compare them with some ap1's and go with the ones I like best.
I like the nike blades and can hit them fine but for some reason (and not just nike blades) I lose upto 20 yards per club which just isn't worth it.

thats exactly what happens to me. Thanks. I hit these clubs pretty ok, but some shots will just not go. I will try the Nike Victory Red cavities tomorrow.

I have the blades and like them a lot but I haven't been able to play a round with them yet since I live in northern Michigan. But i have hit them outside at a covered range once and hit them into the net a lot. I personally think they're pretty forgivable when compared to other blades. I can't say anything on the distance because when i hit outside it was only 35* and was hitting cold balls and you can't really tell where the balls land in the snow

I played Nike irons for a short while, and found I lost distance too. Good feel, but not worth the distance loss.

i see. and what about the half cavity? does that lose any distance as well? isn't that a combo of the blade and the full cavity?

it is suposed to be a median of blade and full cavity... I think they look better too. At least to the full cavity...The blade looks uber nice =D

Just an update. I went back today to try the full cavity backs along with the AP1's, i10's and VR forged split cavity backs. I quickly ruled out the ap1's, the blade looked too long and it felt too heavy. I also ruled out the i10's, they were nice irons with good distance but the ball flight just didn't look great. I tried the split cavity with the DG high launch shaft (not standard in these but standard in the full cavity) and was averaging 2 yards less than the full cavity but they felt much better and there wasn't much difference at all in the forgiveness of either one. Needless to say I pulled the trigger on the split cavities with the high launch shaft. They are beautiful irons and the unique grips are very nice too.

Loosing distance on mid-cavity and blade irons is a result of not hitting in the sweet spot of the iron. The reason full cavity irons are so popular with mid to high handicappers is that you can mis-hit them and still end up ok. With mid-cavity and blades especially, if you mis-hit them, then you will absolutely see a decrease in yardage. but when you do hit them in the sweet spot, there is no better feeling in the world.

FWIW - if you are a 15 or higher, get the full cavity backs, as they will provide you with a good feel on every shot. Guys who regularly play in the low 80's and are steadily creaping up on the 70's, then the mid cb's are a good choice for playability and for shot responsiveness. The blade design is really only intended for players who rarely hit off the sweet spot and need the playability of shaping their shots and want the most responsive club they can get.

My vote is the Nike Split Cavity irons. They have a blade feel at address, have more playability than the full cavity irons, and are slightly more forgiving than the blades. Stewart Cink and several other tour players use these irons and really like them.

I've looked very hard at the VR's as well, and one big question keeps coming up for me. I repeatedly read and hear that blades are only for very low handicappers, but I've also read a few times that this statement is somewhat blown out of proportion, and that today's blades arent as difficult to play as ones from years ago. I actually hit some Mizuno blades (cant remember what model) at a demo day a month or two ago, and I left really wondering if they really would be a bad choice for me, because I hit them pretty well. Obviously, I realize that blades arent going to have anywhere near the forgiveness of a GI or SGI iron. I'm wanting to buy something that I can grow into, and I'm looking for some good opinions on whether they're really as hard to play as they're percieved to be, or if it's blown out of proportion a little bit.

You guys should really go hit some Mizuno blades. I have had MP-9s, MP-14s, MP-29s, and now MP-60s (kinda half-cavity). I never lost distance and the feel cannot be described. Im not hating on Nike, but Mizuno has been doing this for a long time and Ive never hit a Mizuno iron I was dissapointed with.

the blades are good, i've hit them. they offer more forgiveness than any blade i've ever hit. and hitting the ball feels like slicing hot butter when you hit it on the screws. however, i still prefer the mizuno blades. not for any real significant reason, other than i just like MP's.
