Take your grip on the club before grounding it behind the ball. That way you aim the club instead of letting the club aim you. It has been especially useful to me in putting.

i heard one time when driving the ball, to act as if you have a sledge hammer and are trying to slam down a brick wall,

which really helps you drive thru the ball, I did this the other day, showed my brother and i dont think we ever drove the ball better

just by acting as if the ball was a big brick wall, and trying to slam thru it, helped me =]

Grip pressure - on a scale of 1-10: 0.5

That's awesome! If you have a good grip it takes about a .5, MAYBE a .6.

Don't take golf advice from someone that can't beat you 10 times out of 10. And in the words of Boomhauer on "King of the Hill" ...."Speed it the hell up!"

for solid contact, keeping and maintaining my right knee flex was the answer. At the beginning, i would try to keep my head still but the results were about 50% solid contact, when i added the following the tip, my contact went from 50% to 90% solid contact on all strikes. Of course grip, posture, ball position are also critical, but that is assuming you mastered these tips already. Another tip is to shorten backswing. Also i started choking down on the club after I heard anthony kim does it and i have had success with this change also without sacrificing distance.

Okay, now this is probably going to get all you golfguys in a tither (moderators, you may have to step in ). But the best tip I ever got (as a woman) was from Ben Hogan when he said, "Ladies, squeeze your breasts together."

I swear it fixes any slice in your bag!

[IMHO, it keeps us women from swinging with our arms and makes us move our bodies as one unit in the back swing.]

Keeping your head still on the takeaway is absolutely critical. Keeping the head still on the rest of the back swing is important. Keeping the head still on the downswing isn't important at all--you should be focusing on hitting the ball. [note: i actually prefer to keep my eye line and belt line level during the takeaway. but thinking of the head is OK too.]

The only grip in golf is the Vardon or overlapping grip. No other grip exists. Yes, Tiger uses an interlocking grip, but you're no Tiger. The reason the overlapping grip is the only grip is because it moves the bottom hand higher up on the grip than the 10 finger or interlocking grip. The overlapping grip also prevents you from putting too much pressure on the grip.

"yes..."
"Well..they LIED! You're always going to have off days once and a while and you will always work on your swing or some part of you game. Your golf game is a constant work in progress. Even when you play good, you need to work on things"

For me it's 3 things

Keep the head steady
Keep the left arm straight
Rotate my left shoulder (i'm right handed) back and pull it around my spine angle.

Seems to have done wonders for me lately just focusing on that.

Didn't Nicklaus use the interlock as well? Not sure about the "cause and effect" here but use of the interlocking grip may be worth a look-see....

Make your inclination to the ground perpindicular to the club shaft.  Then, use your shoulders to rotate around the spine. The club shaft should always be perpindicular to your inclination to the ground.

    • Played 9 holes, shot a 39.  Kind of got around. Everything between the trees, so in play. Short game was rusty. Got to get back on that. Greens were stupidly slow because they got a lot of rain yesterday and probably couldn't cut them down. Usually in the summer they are firm and pretty fast for how sloped they are. Got to work on face to path a bit.
    • We agree here. Top of the car has a forward force, bottom of the car experiences a backward force via the braking. Both about the COM (somewhere in between). Result is a rotational flip. Since the forward force is still higher the car probably still globally travels forward. Sure, pretty basic. You really think there are deliberate twist forces applied? Like forcing the club head forward and simultaneously forcing grip end in the opposite direction? Heck I don't think we even slow down the grip end deliberately let alone force it the other way. Sorry, if I am missing something here. The orientation change is simple incidental because there is different rate of global movement of grip vs. clubhead throughout the swing. I also happen to think the best swings have the least amount of differential movement between the two end in the impact zone.  In my defense, I never thought one could do justice in covering all aspects of a golf swing in a paragraphs or two to begin with. Especially not with grade school physics..😜 Okay.
    • Wow, @DeadMan that is such a helpful breakdown of what’s around. Really excited to check a bunch of these out. Thank you. Will definitely go to Walnut Creek. Will also try and get a commonground tee time. Haven’t played many Doak courses yet! If your schedule frees up, let me know!
    • Yeah. I'm not sure what Vishal is really talking about with the "constrained" COM. The club's COM doesn't really change much. Less than the body's does… We definitely apply force to the golf club to move it both translationally (linear force) and rotationally (torque) to the golf club. That's what Manzella's alpha/beta/gamma is all about. Even before they switched the reference frame from the global to the club-based one. 😉
    • Any time you apply a force to an object that is not directly through the COM, you're applying a torque. Take a car for example. If a car is moving and you hit the brakes, the only contact point is on the ground. The brakes make the tires slow down which applies a force backwards at ground level. Since that force is not applied directly to the COM, it also applies a torque, which makes the car rotate forwards. The suspension at the front applies another torque upwards to fight against that twist (because the ground is in the way). You can feel the front end of the car dip when you brake. Then, when you stop braking and that force is no longer applied, the tires stop applying that torque to the car and the car feels like it rocks backwards as the suspension evens itself out. That's all torques being applied. Ignoring the twist forces applied to the club leaves you way short of being able to describe the motion. Otherwise the orientation of the club would never change.
