I think it's great that your son is being introduced to the game at a young age. I didn't start playing until the summer after my freshman year in college and I wish I had picked up the game earlier so I could have played in high school (I played Varsity Tennis instead; which although it was fun, I play a lot more golf now than I do tennis).

Ahh this thread brings back some memories of me and my dad playing golf when I was a child. I can still remember the first round we played together. One time I remember asking him to teach me how to swing the club and he said that he taught himself to swing and that I should do the same. He did give me some advice though "clip the grass going back and clip the grass going through". I enjoyed those times of going to the golf course with my dad. We really don't get to go anymore since he has shoulder and wrist problems. Now that I have a daughter I'm sure I will let her pick the game up if she wants just like my dad did with me. I'm really glad to hear that your son enjoys the game and that you get to enjoy the game with your son.

P.S. The last round I have gotten to play with my dad was a high school graduation present. I had to pay for his green fee and cart with the money I had gotten the night before LOL.

High school golf is the best! This year we get to play a top 50 9-hole course (Whitinsville Golf Club), the 18th best course in the country (The Country Club), and another course that is top in Massachusetts (Blackstone National).

So awesome.

We played today.

I did not keep his score but he had a number of great holes where he got up and down several times made a birdie on a par 3 with a 25 foot downhill breaking putt.

He simple needs to play more often to get his game back in shape. his putting was off but that will come around with more rounds.

He did ask me if we could go to the driving range over the weekend. Maybe we will play agian next week.

that's good to hear. I'm 16 and I'm on my school's golf team. Its fun, and a chance to play competitive golf and play all the nice country clubs in the area(If you, like me, are not a member of any).

I'm 15, I'll be 16 by the actual season, but I will be on the golf team. The take the top 6 for match scores, and the top 12 on the actual team, and I'll be either 5, 6, 7, or 8. Most likely 6.

I'm 17 and will be a senior this year, and have just started getting into golf. Me and a buddy are going to try out for our school golf team this year, and hopefully can make it...as long as I can get to where I shoot 40-50 per 9, I should at least make them team, and get the benefits of balls/driving range/free golf, which should help me improve my game. Wish my Dad was a golfer, so that he could have taught me/I could have learned early on. Good Luck to your Son!

Boy, I would do anything to have the golf season in the fall here in Delaware. But
I'm going to be a senior and baseball is my main sport, golf second.

I am playing tomorrow with my son (Monday July 13, 2009) after we missed going out three time prior because he was sick an too weak to go out.

Problems that I discovered in my game
I have been practicing putting at the golf store and notice that I my eyes were not over the ball at address, possibly causing me too pull some of my putts.

I also notice when I was hitting balls today that I shank a few shots with my full and even wedge shots. I discovered that I was not fully extending my arms to the ground and started to hover the club and when I tried to hit the ball it resulted in shanks shots.......... about 6 times. I finally realize what the problem was and corrected it.

excited about playing with my 14.5 year old son tomorrow.
