Recently i've been having a few issues with my driver so have reverted to taking my rescue wood off the tee (TM Burner Rescue) and am hitting it well as i do off the ground. I've been thinking about getting a fairway 3 wood so i can use it more off the tee and when i have longs shots in from the fairway.

I've been looking at the Taylormade Burner fairway as everything else i have in my bag is TM- although i've recently used the PING G10 and have also heard good things about the Cleveland Launcher or the Hi-bore XLS. Have any of you guys used either the PING or the Cleveland and which would you recommend. I'm a high handycapper so need something forgiving and easy to hit - any ideas?

I liked the PING G10 and Cleveland Launcher when I tried them out. I liked the feel of the G10 a little more; it felt like it had more "pop" like a driver does. The Launcher felt more solid though. I have never tried the the HiBore XLS, but have heard good things about the original HiBore fairway wood. I would expect similar feel between the Launcher and HiBore. I would go with the PING. I just liked the feel better, but I would recommend hitting both in a launch monitor and at a range to see the specs and flight.

Which TM Burner are you looking at? The original 2007 model or the newer ones? IMO, the older ones are more suited for high handicappers. A few tour pros play the TM Burner TP, so it's a solid club. To me, it feels like the club has a lot of pop. I just didn't like the superlight shaft.

I'm using the 2007 Burner Rescue so would probably stick around the same for the fairway- especially as there's some good deals- but i don't want to only consider TM as I've heard good things about the Cleveland and quite liked the PING when i hired a set on holiday.

I would recommend the new S9 series from Cobra. I went with the Titleist myself but any of the new Cobra woods would be good for a high handicapper.

If I had the money I'd seriously consider the Tour Edge Exotics XCG:

They are pretty amazing.

I, like yourself use all Taylormade woods. I owned a Burner 3 wood but went back to my Taylormade V-Steele. Taylormade doesn't make the V-Steele anymore but you can pick them up on EBAY brand new for 60$. A lot of reviews out there say that the V-Steele is one of the best fairway woods ever made because of the way the sole is shaped. I've owned 3.

Exotics CB2 is an amazing 3 wood, very long and forgiving....it will give your driver a run for the money...

If your a high capper then the XLS will be the most forgiving, they are dam long too, my 3w isnt far behind my driver.

How are the Mizuno F-60s?

Golftown seems to be moving them out at a great price ($138CAD) and since I don't currently have a fairway wood and love my Mizuno Hybrid I was eying one of these.

Roughly translated as "What fairway wood do you own?"

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I guess people will tend to pick what they play with but it's useful to hear peoples views and which seem the most popular. Tour Edge seem to get a lot of praise on this site but if i'm honest i'd not really heard of them over here in the UK.

Thanks for the advise guess i'm off to hit a few and take it from there.

Still interested to hear any other views!!

Here's another question- do people find a 3 or 5 wood more useful?

A lot of people seem to be splitting the difference and play a 4 wood. If I had to play a 3 or 5, I'd play the 5 as it is easier to hit.

I have last year's Cobra LD (the red one). I like it, just that the aluminum bat sound is hard to get used to.

I've been using my G10 4wood off the tee on a couple of our tight driving par 4's and 5's on my home course.

It really is a sweet club.....extremely solid through impact.....excellent ball flight for me.

The key is not to tee it up very high....simply duplicate a perfect lie and then swing smoothly.

yeah; i agree. When i use my rescue off the tee i push the tee as far into the ground as possible and it flies every time.

I'm going to try and go out tomorrow and hit the PING G10, Cleveland (can't decide on the new launcher or the XLS), and the TM Burner (although i'd like to hit the Cobra but don't want to confuse things with testing too many).
