well im looking to add a lob wedge to my set im a fairly high handicapper but i do put a lot of practice on short game, i play alot of different course conditions, alot of hard pan! but i also play in some thick rough some times. im looking for a wedge thats pretty versatile. ones that im looking at are the cleveland cg 12 with our with out the dsg, and the callaway x tour with the pm grind. does anyone have any suggestions?

the only wedge that I would ever recommend is a titleist vokey spin milled wedge. Is there such a thing as a more perfect wedge?

I have been using cleveland CG 14s, and while they are a bit ugly, they are forgiving and quite nice. I definitely recommend them... most people who use the vokey spin mills swear by them tho... its all preference. I tried the vokeys and cleveland and preferred cleveland.

I agree with the above... use whatever you like, Cleveland, Vokey, and Callaway all make nice wedges... it just depends what you like. The DSG on my wedges do make them pretty versatile... they took a week or two to get used to, but once I did I learned to hit pretty much any shot I need. They are very easy to open up, and still work pretty good off a tight lie. I think I would prefer just my 58 to have the DSG and my 52 to be a normal CG12.

My Clubs: Callaway FT-i Tour LCG 9.5° w/ Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff; Sonartec GS Tour 14° w/ Graphite Design Red Ice 70 stiff; Adams Idea Pro 2h(18°) & 3h(20°) w/ Aldila VS Proto 80 stiff; Adams Idea Pro Forged 4-PW w/ TT Black Gold stiff; Cleveland CG12 DSG RTG 52°-10° & 58°-10°; Odyssey...

Asking this question is like asking who's grandmother cooks the best food (mine does, and its not debateable).

That being said, I love my vokey. I had a CG-14 for a few rounds before the it, and I like the vokey better. My best advice would be to find a place that will let you hit some shots with both and pick the one that feels best.

I've got three of the CG-14's in black pearl, and don't think they're ugly at all

. Great wedges, but I'm still working on my technique with the 60.

Isn't the Titleist Vokey heavier than the Cleveland too?

That little gel triangle thing is pretty ugly. I have 2 chrome cg14s and I love them, but a lot of my friends have commented on the triangle. Personally, it doesn't matter to me, as its all about feel, not looks.

I have tried many wedges and my favorite to date is the Solus 4.1 Series. It has great feel to me and is very accurate. The 59* in particular is very versatile. Check them out on Ebay, don't drop $120 at the factory site.

Sounds like you need a "mid bounce" to cover all the conditions. That would be about 8* give or take a couple degrees. Of course some kind of "C-grind" would allow you to open the face without raising the leading edge. To be honest, my Vokey 60.04 "low bounce" performs really well out of the rough. I think that is due to the sole design/depth. Bounce angle is important in a wedge, but other factors such as sole design and depth make an impact as well. Some of those super wide, always get it out of the sand, wedges only have 8* or so of bounce. But the sole is so wide it skims in the sand and thick grass. I'd err on the side of too much bounce, you can always move it back in your stance in those ultra-tight lies. I had a Cleveland 588 once with too little bounce. That thing was a chunk machine. But if I was going with a Vokey, JMHO, go for the 4*.

cleveland has the c grind version in the dsg. is this like what you are talking about? it says it has 3* of bounce. does anyone have any info on the cg12 with dsg?

No, actually it was the old BeCu wedge. I'm sure it was awesome for opening the face. But I was a newbie at the time and wasn't making good contact with the face square.

    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
