My goals for 2006 were to improve with my driver and possibly dip into single digits on the handicap.

As for the driver, I leave it in the bag. I am using my 3-wood exclusively off the tee, and I've hit more fairways and still average 270 yards or so. I really need to take better stats because I know my fairways hit % and GIR % has improved. I can just tell.

Now, onto the single-digit handicap goal. I have played 8-10 rounds this year, and I've been more consistent than I was last year. I have a 79 for the year, along with an 80 and a couple 81s. I think I've mixed in some mid-80s as well. I really feel my handicap is closing in on 10, but I need to give it a look.

I'm not the best at keeping my handicap up to date. :/

Somehow I missed this thread earlier this year. I bought a range membership. They are cheap in my area. My goals are very simple. To focus on feel, tempo, and relaxation, especially on the course. To spend 50% or more of practice time on the short game. Emphasize practice which prepares me for the real world of the golf course, where creativity and getting it in the hole is what really matters. I have never broken 80 on a par 72 course or any course except from the white tees. I want to accomplish both this year.

So far pretty good except I am having one blow up hole or occasionally two a round. Most recently a 9 on a par 5 I normally par and occasionly birdie and a two 3 put holes left me at 84. Two puts and a good bogey recovery and I would have made it. I did hit the flagstick on a 215 yard par three with a four wood for kick in birdie on the same round. So I am encouraged.

My goals and the progress:

1. Shoot under par for a round - came very close, but not quite
2. Break the 70 barrier - same as above
3. Improve my swing tempo - has greatly improved, and am making really good contact
4. Shorten my swing just a tad(I go a little past parallel) which I think I can do by just reducing my wrist cock - I have tried it, but still am not where I wanta be, but feel I have started going in the right direction.

after literally 19 years off from competitive golf (and golf in general) my goals are to return to local competitive amateur golf and shoot in the 70s in a USGA event (qualifier is fine at this time.)

Ive been able to do both with a 76 in our recent USGA Public Links Sectional qualifier, where I made the cut for play in Day 2 (low round was 64). My last truly competitive round before that was the 1986 Canadian Junior Champs where i had a top 50 finish at age 17 (im now 37).

My results oriented goals are to work on my course management and mental game, and to work on my short game in general.

Pretty happy with the season so far.

I only had one goal for 2005 since it was my first real year playing golf. I want to break 80 and so far all I have is an 81

Men's Club. A tournament pretty much every other week, one played on a Sunday the other on Saturday.

Hey what about those 'super spin' Top Flites?

Which Noodles spin?

my goal is to strike my long irons and my odd-distance (but not close enough to completely feel out) pitches more consistently

    • Day 2: August 12.  I did 25 balls of the ruler drill from LSW for putting.  24 of the 25 stayed on the ruler through 36" but some were smoother than others.  I suspect if the ruler (and goal) had been 48" far fewer would have stayed on.  I'm trying to go by sound, and not look, since when I attempt short putts, I don't want to look (although now I wonder if that's conventional wisdom that turns out to be wrong).
    • Day 17: did mirror work while watching TV. Working on wrist feels.
    • Day 315 - 2025-08-12 Got a little work in before Juniors showed up for one of their Summer Sessions.
    • I always knew it as high but never that distance was 90-95% of rating! That has always played to my advantage. I never have but I could totally vanity cap myself by playing **super** long courses that are otherwise super easy. There was one course like that in LA that I used to play that helped my cap like that. The back tees were close to 7k yards, but otherwise the course was incredibly easy. Wide open, misses almost always had a play at the green from the adjacent hole, flat greens, not challenging green complexes, etc. But it got a high rating because it was so long. So I could swing hard, spray and pray, and score well (relative to my handicap).
    • Do need a special ferrul. Thanx 😉
