I'm not old enough to have seen Jack in his prime, so I can't really say. But I think Tiger right now is pretty hard to beat.

I have to give this to Tiger. As seen this past weekend at the Buick Invite at Torrey Pines, he demolishes the competition. The only thing that could change my mind is if attrition becomes a factor and he falls short in the longevity department.

The golfing world has never seen the likes of what Tiger Woods has done in his 11 years on tour. His game is beyond anyone else's at the moment and seems to only improve at his current 32 years of age.

Tiger is scary good. Seeing him in person is a must for any golf fan. I saw him eagle #5 at the Western Open a few years ago. It was one of the coolest things I've experienced (I think he ended up like -20).

It's pretty hard to compare the two golfers. Jack did his thing in a time when golf clubs were primitive and courses were short. Tiger has top-tech equipment, but has to send the ball a mile. I feel that there are two very different approaches to golf in this respect. Then again, I suck.

Tiger will pass Jack, pass Snead and become the greatest thing golf has ever seen.

grew up with jack
he is very special

compare them?
apples and oranges, bears and tigers

many glorious moments of each to celebrate that give all of us a sense of epiphany in rememberance

certainly jack had more the fashion flair
as did most the golfer's of his day
but i think tiger's options are limited cuz he has to wear all the nike clone crap
plus i think its hideous that all the golfers on the tours today look like walking billboards

but that's the game today, its soul is dressed in commercialism

kudos to ian for taking his clothes off

tiger and jack both have tons of dignity and are beacons of light to a world seeking to find its soul

its just seems funny that we celebrate so much this hitting a white ball on beautiful green over-fertilized grass that no one would dare to drink water from its wells due to all the toxic water run-off from chemicals

heck, don't drink the water anywhere

i'm sure there is a light at the end of this tunnel

and tiger better start watching his back
cuz bryson richards is coming

All of the arguments about the ball and club technology are completely irrelevant in this debate. Jack played with persimmon woods and a wound ball, but so did everyone he played against. Tiger is playing with a three-piece ball and a 460cc driver, but so is everyone he is playing against. (In fact, Woods was one of the last of the top players to embrace the new technology. He still plays with blades and he used a steel driver shaft until about five years ago.)

When all is said and done, Tiger will retire with at least 25 majors and easily 100 PGA Tour wins and closer to 150 wins worldwide. If you still think Jack is the greatest, that's fine. Make your case. But leave out the bogus technology arguments.

I would venture to say that Tiger is better, simply because he is my generation. I was not able to find the time to read all 60 + pages of this thread as it probably has been stated but, I do wonder what Jacks career would have been like with today's technology. Imagine that for a moment, how many majors then? 25+?? we shall never know.

Wow this is a funny post. Put down the ganja Ganjagolfer you are losing too many brain cells . I think it is getting VERY difficult to say Jack was/is better then Tiger. I think everyweek he plays Tiger is making this a non argument. I also think the technology is a non issue. I think if you want to use that, then you have to bring up the lack of good players Jack had compared to whats on tour now. Anyone out there can win. That wasn't the case years ago.

too much ganja is never enough, never said jack was better than tiger, believe me, tiger gives me a thrill to watch like jack did in his day. all this saying tiger is better than jack is like saying van gogh is better than pollack or picasso. they are all remarkable artists and their greatness is appreciated not by comparing it to others achievements. heck, is tiger better than ben hogan. serious car accident and wasn't supposed to walk again and a year later wins the u.s. open just about crawling. there's more to numbers to making someone greater than another. indeed, its ludicrous to compare. i never said anything about technology but since you bring it up, jack played the worst crap of his day, macgregor but i don't want to make this an issue and so have decided not to add another 8 majors to his totals which he would of won if he played the balls and clubs everyone else was playing. anyway, maybe someday when tiger wins the masters at 47, i might say tiger has ascended to the upper reaches of heaven beyond jack but until then, i'm sticking to my bongs

Jack is. Jack was!

That being said, Tiger will blow by him within the next 5 to 10 years!!!

Can anyone see Tiger's records EVER being either tied or broken by the time his career is done?!

    • Why wouldn't it have? It's not like you were playing it as a 145yd par 5 and made a 2 or something.  Or not like it was playing 50yds to a temporary green or something either.

    • I know you guys were discussing this like a year ago. But, ironically I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law. We literally just did one of these. I'd always used the "Slow-Cook, Rest, and Sear" Method. But my bother-in-law was convinced the "5-Min/lb, 500 degree" method was the way. So, we gave it a go. I have to say it came out great.  I have a 25 year old, electric oven, GE brand... Not sure if that matters, but it came out great. ... Of course we stressed that nobody was to open the oven.   I don't make these all that often so, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend one method or the other, because without doing a Pepsi Challenge, I'd say both ways come out great. 👍😁👍
